Locals report two H. W. Wilkersons troop Scouts rescued a drowning tenderfoot in the Little Brazos while swimming at a regular meeting. William David Morgan age 13 and another Scout aided the boy, earning the Scout Medal of Honor for bravery.
A call to scouts to reduce fly and mosquito populations to protect town health. Instructions describe building funnel traps with screening and a bottom hole to funnel insects into a box for capture and profit.
Rockdale Scouts aided by the Lions Club held a week long cleanup campaign collecting five truckloads of cans and trash from the town streets. The Lions Club energized the troop, enabling Dr. Swafford to extend his work, and the editor noted growth and jamboree spirit at a Monday meeting.
Instructions describe a fly trap using a funnel with a small apex hole to let flies in but not out. A raised box on legs holds molasses or banana peel under the funnel to attract flies. Scouts can mass produce traps to sell to merchants and households, earning funds and providing a community service.
Cameron plans a Scout Jamboree on June 15 with nearly all area troops participating. The Cameron Lions Club invites all scouts and community members as guests and promises barbecue and refreshments for the event.
The Editor reports a pleasant Robertson County Scout School on the Brazos last Friday to Saturday. Scouts learned life saving and resuscitation of drowning persons using the Schafer method with every scout practicing and recovering others. Scoutmasters McNeil and Wilkerson led the program with the boys.
