Constructive Plan of Work Endorsed by Chamber Here

A Commercial Club endorsed a constructive plan of work to develop Cameron and the trade territory. A five‑member committee will survey the city and surrounding area to assess industrial and agricultural potential, stressing diversified crops beyond cotton and corn. The plan aims to expand beyond the one‑crop system and boost soil use and farm profits.

Yue High School to Mount Civic Busts Honoring Yoe Family

Cameron Commercial Club plans to install bronze busts purchased from Capitin of Chicago at Yue High School to honor Mr and Mrs C H Yoe. Funds remain and organizer F S Lesovsky will canvass for the balance while praising the gift of a modern Yue School building.

Memorial Day Observances Announced in Milam County

Cameron businesses will close May 30 from 10 to 11 a.m. for Memorial Day remarks on the courthouse lawn. Veterans of all American wars will attend. The American Legion post will place flowers on World War veterans’ graves. Speakers include Mrs. Jeff T. Kemp, Hon. T. S. Henderson, and Hon. W. Gil lis. All ex servicemen and the public urged to attend at 2 p.m.

Highway Report Details Varying Road Conditions Across Regions

The report notes very bad highways in the northeast with many detours while the West offers better travel. California tourists near El Paso may face twenty miles of planking road. speed may reach 30 mph but detours require help to rejoin traffic. San Antonio via Little River is best. Caldwell via Milano is impassable, suggesting routes via Rockdale Lexington and Guy's store to Caldwell. Other highways range from fair to good and Waco via Rosebud is reachable only through Chilton Mooreville.

Swimming Facility to Open Next Monday Night

The nattorium will open for the season next Monday May 28 according to P O Adams. The pool and dressing rooms are being prepared this week. A large crowd is expected for the opening night with fresh water and plenty of fun promised.

Cameron Comets Open 1923 Baseball Season Friday

Cameron prepares for the 1923 season with the Comets opening June 1 at Green Athletic Field against Beaumont. Manager Rogers arrays a new lineup including Eddie Copeland as catcher, Ray Falk at second, Dick Brewer at first, and pitchers from area Normal schools. field improvements and a citywide mull over closing shops for the big game.

Water analysis shows reduced bacteria after treatment

On May 19 raw water contained 2000 bacteria per cubic centimeter with Bacillus present while treated water had 30 with Bacillus absent. On May 21 raw water showed 750 bacteria per centimeter with Bacillus present and treated water 62 bacteria per centimeter with Bacillus absent.

Williams visits Cameron on business with Bell Telephone

J A Williams district manager of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company visited Cameron Monday to meet with local exchange manager Ferguson and discuss service. Williams praised the Cameron exchange noting it in splendid condition and satisfied business community. The company recently completed cable upgrades to meet demand.

Local merchant Guy Tidwell dies at home in Gause

Guy Tidwell, aging 48, longtime Gause resident and Ganse Lumber Company manager, died suddenly at his home Sunday night. He was born near Fraimville and leaves a wife Gladys Patridge, a daughter Helen Jane, his mother, and a brother in Waco. Funeral held Wednesday at the Baptist church with D Baker delivering the graveside oration, followed by a Klansmen cross ceremony at the grave.

James L Muse of Milam County Dies in Cameron

James L. Muse a longtime Milam County resident died at his Cameron home Sunday night at 9 30. He was buried Monday at Sharp Cemetery with funeral services at the residence conducted by Rev H R Mac Fadyen. He moved to Cameron two years ago from Washington County and is survived by his wife and five children Mrs Ben Cass of Hanover and four others John Eugen Ernest and Miss Ioma all of Cameron. The Herald extends sympathy to the family.

Jail Breaker Caught After Cameron Escape

Leon Fulton and companion Robert Pickett broke jail Friday night in Cameron. Fulton was captured Monday by a Lampasas constable. Pickett fled to the hills. Fulton faces forgery charges. Pickett is wanted for fire and robbery at Fisher and Sons Dry Goods in Thorndale. Both men are indicted. Further details traced among escaped prisoners and car theft cases. Lena Wells Dossett, charged with transporting liquor, received a one year penitentiary sentence.

Joyce Cox Wins Creager Award At Athenaeum Meeting

Chautauqua Week Sparks Cameron First Monday Plans

Jail Break At Cameron Sparks Roundup

Robert Pickett and Lion Fulton escaped from Cameron jail during the early hours. Police say this is the second jail break within the month and a statewide manhunt is underway.
