Mission Murders and Dry River Murk in 1752
County reports recount eight years after the killings at the San Xavier Mission, an acquittal for Rabago Teran and full exoneration for the missionaries. The spring of 1752 brought extreme drought, with the San Xavier River drying to weed filled pools, triggering an epidemic that felled Indians, soldiers, and Captain Miguel de la Garza Falcon. Witnesses describe Cahone Coco Indians as the killers, while Andres of the Sayopin testifies, later retracting, amid disputes over weapon origin and guilt.
