Vols Fight Blaze Saving Nearby Property in Inferno
Fire destroyed a three unit building in the 500 block of South College owned by the Mendick estate and a tavern run by Ben Kennon. Volunteers battled the flames for hours, preventing spread to adjacent Lazek property and the Joe H. Smith home. Mrs Kennon left briefly for a hospital visit and returned to find patrons fleeing the inferno. Tenacity kept firefighters at risk as they saved nearby structures and possessions.

The Milam County Junior Broiler Contest and Show was held in Cameron Texas with FFA and 4-H members raising chicks under supervision. Wayne Davis won first prize of 20 dollars sponsored by Burris Moseley Variety. Adrian Richter placed second. Theodore Fbs took third. Billy Gelner fourth. Edna Bullard fifth with 20 additional top prizes and 3 dollar awards for many finalists. An awards banquet followed on Yee High School courts with barbecue served to about 275 people.
