No Reaction To Anti-Polio Shots Reported In Milam Co

Dr. John Bryson reports that no Cutter anti polio vaccine was administered in Milam County free program as the Cutter vaccine was banned after one death and seven paralytic cases nationwide. Officials note no Texas children received the shot, while turnout for the second dose proceeds with two remaining clinics in Cameron and Rockdale and private physicians continuing to vaccinate.

Social Security Representative Here Tuesday May 10

A Social Security Administration representative will visit the Cameron State Department of Public Welfare on Tuesday May 10 at 1 00 p m. The session is arranged by James B Marley district manager with cooperation from Mrs Mary Y Green and Fitzhugh Gregory who provided meeting space. The move aims to save residents time and expense by transacting business locally. The article notes the 1954 amendments expand coverage to about nine of ten workers and self employed persons. Diseases in Milam County Last Week Report

Varied illnesses recorded in Milam County for the week ending April 30 show chickenpox leading with 26 cases to Dr John Bryson at the County Health Unit. Other totals include 14 street throat, seven measles, six pertussis, three gonorrhea, two mumps, plus one each of infective serum hepatitis and infectious mononucleosis.

Bowman elected new Lions Club president for upcoming term

Dr. George Bowman was elected president of the Lions Club with Don Humble as first vice president and Lewis McKee as second vice president. Others named include Rev. Alcoa Donates 200 to Cameron Fire Dept

J D Harper manager of Alcoa Aluminum Company of America Rockdale sent a 200 check to Cameron Volunteer Fire Department for help in fighting a blaze. He also sent letters of appreciation to Mayor O B Horstman Sheriff Carl Black and Fire Marshal and praised Horstman for continual cooperation with area firemen.
