Pike Fry Released In East Texas Lake Nursery Coves
About 300000 northern pike fry were released by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department biologists into two East Texas lakes in experimental nursery coves. The fry were placed in Lake Quitman in Wood County and a Lake Houston area cove near Crocket to protect them from predators until they are large enough to survive in the main lake. Barriers of polyethylene and nylon netting enclose the coves, and preditor fish were cleared to aid survival. When size allows, barriers will be removed and the fish will disperse into the lakes.
