The Niagara Falls hydroelectric project houses turbines with a total 454 000 horsepower rating and delivers energy as if fourteen 5 000 horsepower units operated. Water from the rapids above the unit powers a 70 000 horsepower system with 93 percent efficiency, using a 32 foot diameter tunnel 4 300 feet long to feed additional units through a hydraulic pressure tunnel.
