RR Dragons Win Cameron Relays

Round Rock captured the Cameron Relays with 148 points, Hearne second with 92, and Cameron third with 46 as rain cooled but did not stop events. Fine Arts Exhibit Opens at Cameron Library

The Texas Fine Arts Traveling exhibit opens at Cameron Public Library with a formal reception from 6 to 7 pm. Twenty artists are represented, with works in watercolor ink wash collage and more. The display runs until April 4 and is sponsored by the friends of the Cameron Public Library.

County Study Examines State Retirement Plan

County commissioners are studying a proposal to place county officials and employees under a state retirement system. The move would shift pension administration and funding responsibilities to the state, affecting eligibility and benefits for local workers.

Cameron plant boosts Texas cattle feeding with liquid supplement

Cameron Texas Nutrition and Service Co introduces Pro-Fit liquid and dry cattle supplements for Texas Oklahoma and Arkansas ranches. City election set with three council seats uncontested

A light turnout is forecast for the Texas city election. Incumbents Starrett Hickman and Lawrence Zotz seek re election to Places 3 and 4 and Robert Clark is appointed to Place 5. Absentee voting closes Friday March 28. Polls open 8 am to 7 pm at City Hall. Residency and registration rules apply.

Milam County Sees Rush To Buy 1969 License Plates

Milam County tax office braces for a last minute rush as motorists race to obtain 1969 license plates. Tax assessor Walter White warns sales are lagging but cites 40 percent more plates left to sell. Fees rise 20 percent after Monday, and driving with 1968 plates can bring up to a $200 fine. Title and 1968 registration receipt required.

Garbage Burning Ban Forces New Disposal Method in Cameron

Cameron must end open garbage burning by July 1 under state anti pollution rules. Mayor Perrin said a land fill option is most feasible, requiring a dozer front end loader and about 1.5 acres annually, with a full city council report next meeting.

Two Car Collision Injures One Driver in Cameron

Thomas L. Little of Cameron was treated for minor injuries after a two car collision Sunday afternoon at the North Travis and West 3rd Streets intersection. Little’s 1950 Ford hit a 1962 Chevrolet driven by David A. Horelica of Cameron. About $300 damage to each car. Horelica uninjured. City Patrolman Filipe Martinez reported.

Cameron Housing Authority awards the Campbell project housing contract to Barker Construction Company of Quanah for 682 895 with HUD funds totaling 52 216 new funds approved. Ired Starnes announces the award as CHA plans final details with HUD in Fort Worth before construction begins.

Graveside Rites For John Hood

John J. Hood, 66, a Cameron native and retired druggist, died in a Luling hospital Monday evening. He was a Methodist Church member. Survived by sister Flourine Harcourt of Nixon, nephew Jack Farr of Houston, and niece Mrs. W. Tillis of Dallas. Graveside services at 2 30 p.m. Wednesday at Oakill Cemetery in Cameron.

Ivey and McIntosh Win At TJC Science Fair

Twolee High students Thomas N. Ivey and William L. McIntosh were judged winners at Temple Junior College last weekend for the Central Texas Research Society science fair. Ivey won first place in senior math and engineering, while McIntosh earned third in senior physics.
