Paperweight from old rail sent to Judge Kemp in Liberty County
Jefferson County news notes Howard Kenyon Dredging Company recovered a cross section of an English wrought iron railroad rail from Trinity River mud. The rail, 18 to 24 feet long, dated to 1858 and bound for Liberty Texas, had never become part of a railroad but lay buried for 66 years. Fifteen tons were recovered on the first day with no rust.
