Steel Indian Arrow Point Found Near Milam County
Durwood Bailes of Sharp found a steel arrow point used by Indians near the Henderson farm by Bryant Station bridge over Little River. It is the only steel point known in Milam County. Bailes gave it to his son, a collector with about 300 specimens.

Strange Cactaceous Growth Displayed At Herald Plant
A grotesque cactus like growth is shown at the Herald plant. Brought Thursday by L. W. Smith of Community Public Service Co. in Texas City. Smith traveled with R. W. Hester engineer for the company and picked up the specimen in Sealy Texas. The plant appears vegetative and desert like possibly from a semi arid climate carried by Brazos River waters. Its origin within the local area remains uncertain. It was found years ago in the Brazos by L. E. Kurtz of the Community Public Service Co. in Sealy at Felipe Township east of Sealy near Stephen F. Austin State Park.

Don Slocomb suffered a skull fracture a brain concussion and a broken left hand when his truck was struck by a car driven by L C Boyd of Walkers Creek on Highway 77 near Elm Creek. He was rushed to St Edwards Hospital in critical condition. Boyd escaped serious injuries.

Raymond French, 19, of Oakwood Community west of Rockdale, died at 8 p.m. Sunday in Cameron's St. Edwards Hospital from injuries after a motorcycle collided with a horse on Highway 77 south of Tanglewood. He had brain concussion and was taken to hospital by a passing motorist. French lived with two brothers on the Sims farm near Tracy. parents moved here from Bastrop. Funeral set for Pfc Marvin Mode on Guadalcanal
Funeral services for Pfc Marvin Mode killed in action on Guadalcanal will be Friday March 19 at the Green Funeral Home Chapel in Cameron. Rev J D Stinebaugh and Rev L L Morriss will conduct with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mode, born August 24 1925 at Wilson Texas, was a native of Lynn County and son of Ollie and the late Ollie Mode. He arrived home via Santa Fe lines and will lie in state before the service. He served with the Sixth United States Marines and was killed January 23 1943. He left a large family including parents, grandparents, and siblings.

Gus Johns 63 a Clarkson resident was found dead at his home Thursday afternoon after a forehead wound. Justice of Peace B G Rice presided over the inquest in Ben Arnold. Funeral services are set for 2 30 p m Saturday March 20 at Green Funeral Home Rosebud with interment in Rosebud cemetery. Surviving are his widow three sons Theodore Johns of San Antonio M Johns and Joseph Johns of Rosebud four daughters Noma Johns Clarkson Florence Lemke Seguin Jewell Hadelar West Columbia and Corawell of Rosebud. He was a well known Cameron figure and friends were shocked.
