Cynthia Matula, 12, undergoes a 14 shot anti rabies series after a skunk bitten her rabbits near Cameron. The rabbits were destroyed and the skunk head sent to Austin. a boy was reportedly bitten previously. Local officials warn residents about trapping skunks and urge yearly pet vaccinations.
Cameron voters will see two trustees on the April 3 ballot with Place 1 to Coleman Duncom and Place 2 to Will Vogelsang. School construction expands as a Colonial Nursing Home proceeds at East 10th and Davis Street, with completion planned by July.
Milam County commissioners and architects reviewed preliminary courthouse improvements and a plan for a new county jail. The proposal adds 10745 square feet, totaling 25265, with space on the north and south sides and uses all available roof space.
County Attorney John Henderson Jr. said a 14 year old boy who crashed a stolen car in Cameron during a pursuit with Patrolman Derwood Kennedy is being handled by Dallas County authorities as a juvenile delinquent.
Cameron's Junior Chamber of Commerce elected new officers for the coming year with Gene Friemel as president. He will succeed Jack Terhune. Other new officers taking office in May include Lawrence Jetter first vice president Charles Chandler second vice president Dr John Martin treasurer and Jack Small secretary. Newly elected directors are Jim Camp Raymond Kurtz Bruce Crook and Jack Terhune.
John W. Sapp, a 72 year old civil service worker, retired after two extensions and reflects on a career at Nassau Missile Base Alabama and Redstone. He helped produce and cool Redstone Jupiter and Juno missiles, contributing to the Mercury program while detailing long service from 1942 onward and a Cameron Texas upbringing. He and his wife Helen Horstmann retired in 1964 and now live at 1708 N Cleveland in Cameron.
Cameron Independent School District trustees vote to annex Marak Common School District No. 57 affecting about 22 students in grades 1 through 8. Yee High students would transfer if approved. Lone Star Gas pays back taxes. contracts for Yee High and district actions discussed.
Cameron Jaycee announces teen road e o entry deadline for ages 16 to 19 with a valid license and no traffic convictions in six months. Event set for 2 p m Sunday April 4 at Safeway parking, with local winner advancing to Fort Worth state meet and national finals in Washington D C for scholarships and a Comet automobile.
Rep Milton Schiller introduces a bill to maximize federal funds for vocational and technical education. The plan would create a State Board for Vocational Education as the coordinating agency with state and federal participation for district level vocational schools. A Cameron survey led by R T Adams assesses local need and fields for expansion.
Cameron chamber of commerce directors discussed re organizing a United Fund campaign and planned a meeting with county city school and chamber officials to combine efforts for civic improvement. An April 12 meeting will set the year's projects. An audit committee of Ed Manning and John Davis was named to close the 1964 65 books.
Fourty four 4-H members from across the county enter the County eliminations and King and Queen contest on March 20 at the Methodist Fellowship Hall. The evening begins at 7 p.m. and includes the Share-the-Fun contest and divisions in Cotching Education Demonstrations Civil Defense Foods and Nutrition Money Management Field Crops Junior and Senior Share-the-Fun Soil and Water Conservation and Electricity. Winners advance to District eliminations in Stephenville on April 10.
