Foreclosure sale voided over mushroom paper notice

A mortgage foreclosure in Birmingham failed after the sale when the only bidder was the mortgagee and the notice ran in a obscure suburban paper with tiny circulation. The court held the sale invalid and taxed the mortgagee with costs, urging good faith in choosing publicity.

Temple Life Insurance Company Formed From Two Firms

Announcement of the consolidation of Temple and Cameron Life Insurance Companies. The new firm, Temple Life Insurance Company, will have offices in Temple with branches in Cameron and Bartlet. Vernon Roberts and Walter B. Smith become active managers with KE. T. Knight as vice president. Roberts will divide time between Cameron and Temple. state insurance commissioners have approved.

Engineer Joe Rady presented plans at Tuesday night’s meeting and the city will apply for a government grant to fund the water system. The city holds $150,000 in unissued bonds. There was no update on the Wilson-Ledbetter Park swimming beach project.

Reagan High leads Sixth Annual Invitation Track Meet scoring 26

Reagan High School of Houston won the Sixth Annual Invitation Field and Track Meet with 26 points marking its second straight title. Breckenridge High School of San Antonio took second with 23.5 points and Austin High finished third with 22.5. Milby High of Houston earned fourth by winning the 1560 yard relay for 10 points. Cullen of Breckenridge led individuals with 11.25 points, followed by Terry of Lophart with 6. The meet director, Chas M Hicks, announced record performances and the largest turnout in six years, with Reagan receiving the grand prize cups and overall honors.

K D Parnell a Cameron Public School vocational agriculture teacher was named chamber president. He pledges a balanced farm income program and asks officers and directors to cooperate for Cameron 1938 goals. New officers include FE RB Camp and R G Grabein. secretary W F Paden. Directors listed.

Indictments in Gow Theft Case From Cross Roads Farm

Carl Wiese foreman on the S. D. Cross farm faces two theft counts for cattle missing from the Cross Roads property. Herman Patzke Levi Watson and Sam Yett are among others indicted. The grand jury returned 21 felony indictments including Steve Rieger for wife and child desertion.

Milam Votes for Market Quotas Referendum Passed

Farmers of Milam County approved the proposed marketing quota for capital crops in the referendum last Saturday. The margin of approval mirrored national results at about 91 percent.

Citizens file names two trustees today

Early Thursday a citizens committee asked papers to publish that D. T. Crump and F. B. Lesovsky, Cameron School Board members, were drafted for re election. Elections set for April 2. Both consented to run, praise given for gymnasium construction, school expansion, and better finances.
