N H Butts announces candidacy for re election to Milam County Commissioner from precinct 2 seats 1 and 2. He claims long service as oldest court member, praised for economical operation and road maintenance, asking precinct voters for support in the Democratic primary on July 28, 1928.
R A Hairston, Milam county precinct 3 commissioner, announces candidacy for re election ahead of the Democratic primary in July. Supporters credit his record of road fund distribution and maintenance of main routes, and Hairston plans to meet voters across the district to discuss his campaign.
Max Collins completed interior rearrangement with new paint and paper. The store will soon stock up to date shoes under the supervision of J R Hays who recently joined the popular store.
The district court March term convened Monday morning, civil docket sounded, and several prominent cases set. The grand jury is W. S. Lamkin H. L. Yeager R. K. Anderson John W. Patridge Giles McDermott D. K. Hall J. K. Dunham L. H. Dansby W. A. Gilbert C. C. Sproul J. M. Gilchrist C. K. Stribling foreman.
Superintendent T A Fisher returns from the National Education Association gathering in Boston, where about 10 000 attended. Texas sent 100 delegates by special train and others via different routes. Speakers included leaders from Harvard Yale and Brown, with emphasis on high school education and citizenship.
Cashier Irvin N. Clarey reports Citizens National Bank holds assets totaling 1,548,096.47 and deposits of 1,180,176.16. The bank has long been among the state’s strongest, and the government statement reflects prosperity and commendable management.
Mrs. C. C. Weaver of Houston and Brother Weaver visited Saturday and Sunday to attend the dedication of the new church. He led both services as part of the revival activities with Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Lawrence hosting.
The Presbyterian church in Cameron held a well attended homecoming service on Sunday March 4 in the new church building dedicated that day. Rev. C C Weaver of Houston preached the opening sermon assisted by local clergy and guests from Temple Georgetown Marlin Itasca Waco Dallas Hillsboro Rockdale and Maysfield.
A revival meeting for Boy Scout activity drew attendees from Rockdale Maysfield and the local area. Rev Wallace Jones W G Gillis and Bob Terry named as patrol leaders. Mr Lawrence district scout executive lectured. meetings continue each Thursday in March at the Methodist church.
J. D. Lewis will play at Wayside Inn Saturday night March 10. He leads one of the best orchestras in Texas and promises a real treat in good dance music for those who have not heard him lately.
Joe Kopecky, the Bohemian champion, arrives in Cameron on Tuesday night for a championship wrestling bout against Henry Karhunsaari. Promoters call it a top program in the legion series with strong local support and fundraising for a Cameron memorial building.
The Cameron State Bank, issued by cashier George T. Graves, reports resources of 591,500.18 and deposits of 518,360.75, declaring prosperity and strength in the community and steady growth over a number of years.
Milner Company of San Antonio and Denver sold a large batch of Terral Heights Addition lots in Cameron last week. The firm reported strong demand and advertised low terms, indicating the sale will spur new homes in Cameron.
The Business and Professional Women's Club will hold its regular monthly meeting at the Country Club on Monday evening March 12 at 7 30. The gathering will discuss club business and professional outreach.
The Commercial Club endorses a Cameron city drive to raise 1950 matching the Duncan community effort for a road from Worle ygin to Duncan schoolhouse. A Duncan delegation reports 1950 in cash and labor has been raised. the club will assist. A further gift of 15 is approved to fund rat killing prizes. Minutes show meeting adjourned.
In Cameron Ketonen the world middleweight champion was injured in the first fall and could not return to the mat, forfeiting to Finn Henry Karhunsaari who now lays claim to the title. Ketonen leaves Cameron and will not wrestle here again this season. The match followed a rough night with cautions for slugging and a 55 minute first fall.
The first big hatch of baby chicks for spring will be off the incubators at the Cameron hatchery next Tuesday March 14 according to management. Sunshine Hatcheries report strong demand for Cameron hatched chicks with wide distribution across the state.
The Herald carries a statement by Fred B. Cable showing total resources of 1,202,895.87 and deposits of 032,585.67 for the First National Bank. The bank merged with the Texas State Bank and Trust Company to form a strong, old Milam county institution in good financial condition.
Four people including two children were killed at 4 14 pm in a crossing collision between a coupe and a Santa Fe extra on the Houston Hempstead highway near Sanders crossing. Victims include Mrs Charles E Brown and Myrnee Sanders Jeanette Kreuger and Hattie McDonald. Mrs Brown was cousin to L F Gohmert of Cameron. The community mourns the loss of Mrs Gohmert as funeral plans are reported.
Irvin N. Clarey cashier of Citizens National Bank receives the first Ford car in town a roadster from Hubert Hefley Motor Company. Advertisement notes assembly plant began operation March 5 and deliveries soon follow with Hefley predicting imminent shipments.
Cameron moves toward natural gas supply as 16 subscribers remain to reach the 500 goal. The Community Gas Company of Dallas will lay lines once targets are met, with plans for rapid operation and praise for citizens and Cameron Commercial Club officials.
Demonstration of Pool garments at the Max Collins store in Cameron scheduled for Saturday March 10. Sherman Pool factory representatives will display the garments manufactured. Mr. Pool is noted as a former Cameron citizen and Mr. Collins has ads in local papers this week.
Rockdale Tex March 6 The committee on drive to secure natural gas wired the Community Gas Company at Dallas that the quota of 210 signed contracts had been completed and money deposited in the bank.
Mr. Lasikar is building a new residence in Cameron's Green addition. The house under construction is nearing completion and will be a splendid improvement for the area, where many new homes have already been built.
