Cameron and area schools will observe Public Schools Week March 7 to 11 with open houses and a science fair. Ada Henderson and Ben Milam host 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. O. J. Thomas Junior High 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Yoe High 7 to 9 p.m. Yoe High science fair relocates to science department rooms above the gym on the east end.
Jessie Wilkerson 81, longtime Cameron Herald contributor and former Texaco employee, died in Houston after recalling two Cameron boyhood books Comrades of the Canyons and Come Home Bill Bailey. He is survived by his wife Sallie, son Dale, daughter Marilynn, and seven grandchildren. Born September 22, 1895 in Cameron, he lived in Cameron until 16, later in Temple and Houston. He wrote many Herald stories and articles during his career and was known as a former printer's devil and delivery boy.
Rep Dan Kubiak reminds seniors in his district to file the three thousand dollar city tax exemption form by April 30 and to file annually for the homestead exemption. Nancy Johnson was treated at St John s Hospital Taylor after her car went off Brushy Creek bridge into the creek between Rockdale and Thorn Dale Thursday. Cameron School district is near full completion of 1975 76 Accreditation Pilot Project per a Texas Education Agency letter to Superintendent Buddy Dulin Director H E Phillips notes local review of progress on the district plan is due annually.
Milam County highway work approved by the State Highway and Public Transportation Commission as part of the 1977 program. US 77 and US 190 improvements near Cameron aim to raise ride quality and skid resistance at a cost of 345,400 dollars. District Engineer Joe G. Hanover notes statewide 4,665 miles will be improved with 40 million in construction costs and 7,700 thousand for right of way.
