Cameron Western Week set for record activities in July

Cameron officials forecast the July Western Week to be the biggest yet with a full slate starting July 8. The week opens with a 5 p.m. parade, gaited and quarter horse shows, a morning event schedule, a Western Dance on July 14, and a trail ride kicking off July 7 attracting numerous saddle clubs and civic groups. The event is organized by the Cameron Saddle Club and Chamber of Commerce with multiple club and city participants.

Farm Bureau Queen Contest Deadline Set for July 5

Milam County Farm Bureau announces the July 5 1961 deadline for entries to the Queen Contest to be held July 22 at the First Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Birthday salute for Cameron chiropractor Dr Cotton at 95

Dr S R Cotton observed his 95th birthday in Cameron with calls from friends after 35 years in practice. He recalls Pennsylvania roots, moved to Cameron in 1926, endured multiple fires that destroyed his offices, and continued practicing until retirement. He remains active in the First Presbyterian Church and looks forward to reaching 100.

Buckholts Rural High School District votes 50 cent tax hike

Buckholts patrons approve a 50 cent per $100 maintenance tax increase 105 to 13 at Buckholts School. New levy rises to $1.50 per $100 valuation for maintenance and 50 cents for bond retirement, adding about $5,300 to operating revenue. The district serves about 165 students in a 12 grade system.

Officials Plan Benefit Game For Cameron Milano

Ellison Elected MFU President in Milam County

Dick Ellison of Baileyville was elected president of the newly chartered Milam County Farmers Union at Simon-George Hall. Officers include James McCrary and Mrs. Fritz Doss. Alex Dickey of the Texas Farmers Union spoke on four bases of the farm organization and praised Kennedy and Freeman for the 1961 Farm Bill.

Sellstrom Named Wire Chief at Cameron Office

Floyd Sellstrom, 34, assumed duties as wire chief of Southwest Bell Telephone Co. in Cameron succeeding Pat Armstrong who moved to Rockdale. A Round Rock native, he came from Austin where he was a station installer and had assisted in Cameron line work in 1952. He and his wife moved to 1506 North Jackson Cameron with two children.
