City Council reopens the rear edifice behind the police and fire station as a jail to detain city prisoners. Improvements include painting, screened windows, and added sanitary facilities. Sheriff Black notes county jail remains available if city calaboose overflows.
The summer girls softball program features weekly Tuesday and Thursday play at 7 30 p m between the Indians and Dodgers for the championship. Newcomers are welcome as a third team could heighten the rivalry. Current rosters include Patsy Titsworth Kay Pemberton Louise Thompson and others for the Indians and Gloria Lane Barbara Schuttle Linda Kirk Annette Fuqua Irene Buchhanan Mary Buchanan Betty Cadel Linda Miller Barbara Woodum Carol Ann Shuffield for the Dodgers. The Indians lead the pennant after opening with a 21 18 win and a 10 10 draw.

Cameron city council authorized free weekly garbage collection for residents in five districts. Only trash in 10 to 30 gallon containers bundled and placed by the can will be collected, with special service charged at $1 per pickup. Regular service remains free.
Albert Hajovsky operated Western Auto in Cameron as 2 500 guests attended over the weekend. Flowers adorned the setup while attendees toured the stocked store and received gifts. Cash prize winners were Frine Juergens Burling $25, Mrs C C Schrank Buckholts $15, and Mrs Harold Kornegay Milano $10.
The Milam County Farm Bureau will host a family night at 7:30 p.m. in Cameron City Park. Families bring baskets. the bureau provides drinks plates and bread. Miss Lenora Bickett urges all members and their families to attend. games will follow the meal in an important meeting.
The Milam County Democratic Executive Committee awarded the printing of July and August primary ballots to the Cameron Herald Publishing Company as a goodwill gesture for previous free office space. L A Petty of Sharp will deliver election supplies as in 1954, a motion by DeWitt Kornegay and seconded by H B Pressley. Absentee voting runs July 9 to July 25.

All Saints Episcopal Church in Cameron opens a weekly Friday youth program in the parish hall. The event invites youths from other churches and will be chaperoned by parents and a youth committee. Music is recorded and refreshments are soft drinks on the honor system.
Milam County Democratic Executive Committee met Monday night June 18 at the District Courtroom for business ahead of the July and August primaries. Drawing by lot for ballot placement was led by Irvin Vogelsong Bernard Barber and George Leath Sr State candidates names were drawn first and listed for Governor Yarborough Haley Daniel Helmes O Daniel and Senterfitt Lt Governor Johnson Ramsey Aikin Jr and Smith Attorney General names to be continued on back page.

A Milam County public meeting heard a proposal for a farm market road from Cameron to Yarrellton via Marak. Judge Charlie Smith warned it would be the most expensive and difficult to build. Petition with 147 signatures urged consideration by the Commissioners Court.
Cameron School Board hired Yarborough, Barge, Vance Temple CPAs to complete an audit by September 1 at an estimated cost of 400 to 700 dollars. The board plans to ask Milam County to consolidate Yarrellton with Cameron ISD or assess fair transfer charges after TEA consultation. Principal C. L. Sadberry and eleven teachers were reappointed. bids were awarded for cafeteria equipment and repairs. a tax structure for sinking fund and maintenance was approved. vermin extermination in cafeterias was ordered as the meeting adjourned with a bare quorum and a note to see the back page.
