Catholic Students at Texas A&M Seek $200,000 Chapel

Rev. Tin Valenta of St. Joseph's Catholic Church launches a drive for 200000 to build a new chapel and recreation center for 900 Catholic students at Texas A&M College. Plans include a residence for the chaplain, auditorium, classrooms, library, and lounges. Construction to begin soon on a 2.5 acre tract.

Tomato crop faces a serious setback amid drought and rains

Jekel Receives A&M Scholarship Award

City Inaugurates A Weed Cutting Service

Bigbee Couple Return From Venezuela to Cameron

Mr and Mrs W D Bigbee return to their Cameron home after a year with a construction firm in Venezuela. He, a World War I navy veteran, said he plans no immediate moves and will stay in Cameron for now. They previously lived in Cameron and Mrs Bigbee formerly worked for the county superintendent.

Rev Lee Lemons Named New Cameron Methodist Pastor

Rev Lee Lemons is the new pastor at First Methodist Church in Cameron assigned at the Houston conference. He comes from Crockett and will be in Cameron within a few days possibly in the pulpit this Sunday. Pastor A E Rider, who joined in 1946, transfers to Milby Methodist in Houston.

Troop 52 Tops All In Temple Meeting

Cameron Scouts of Troop 52 won the Heart O' Texas council field meet at Legion Park with 77 points. Rockdale Troop 88 won the senior division by default as no other troops challenged them. Temple Troop 106 finished last with 17 points, while Waco Troop 28 earned 17 and Troop 10 earned 28 for third.

Record June Low Temperature Reported by Local Observer

L. W. Smith, weather observer for the government, said the low here was 64 degrees, possibly a near record for June. Fort Worth registered 54 degrees at 7 a.m. Saturday, with the lowest known June reading 53 on June 14, 1903. Little rain fell in Texas and crops suffer from drought. relief is expected as temperatures rise later.

President Truman disapproved the income tax reduction measure after the Republican Congress passed it. He argued cutting government revenue would destabilize the economy, while Democrats warned it would mainly aid the rich. The House plans to consider overriding the veto Tuesday.

Milam County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to continue funding for the Health Unit and approved a $525 budget increase. Cameron City contributes $1300, while other towns provide no funds. Judge Dan Tyson announced the continued county support after the unit requested $800. Aged Couple Injured In Car Crash Near Walker Creek

Mr and Mrs Frank Angell aged couple living on a farm near Walker Creek were injured Sunday morning on their way to church. A car driven by a young Mr Lucko collided with the Angell machine at a side road intersection. They were not critically hurt but severely shaken by the impact.
