Rivalry Among Texas Denominations in Frontier Folklore
An account from A Treasury of Southern Folklore recalls sharp sectarian wit among Texas churches. Baptists and Methodists clash with rival Episcopalians, including a 1866 Erath County open war over infant baptism and a Methodist minister ordered to bury Baptist kin. The piece notes enduring, if combative, religious rivalries and colorful circuits.
