Billy Appleton's New York gamble and love dilemma
Four classmates gather at a hotel piazza to hear Nell recounts Billy Appleton's move from Portland to New York with $200 and a picture of Elsie Hill. He designs window art, wins a prize, loves Elsie yet is drawn to Adele, and faces a choice between a safe marriage or a dazzling, restless life. Nell cannot decide whom he should wed.
