Empty Pesticide Container Disposal Guidance
Austin officials stress disposal challenges from small pesticide use and the 44 percent non farm share. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department cites farm usage at 56 percent and urges wrapping empty containers in newspaper, crushing them, and placing in trash. Aerosol cans must not be burned. If collection is unavailable bury containers 18 to 24 inches deep in clay or loam, 500 feet from livestock or water. Excess pesticides should be buried two feet deep away from water sources.
