Cameron Extends Water Mains Amid Insurance Approved Upgrade

The Fire Insurance Commission authorizes a 19 cent reduction in Cameron's key rate as water mains are extended. The city passes an ordinance to extend the water company's contract to enlarge mains, install 19 new fire plugs, and replace four inch lines with six and eight inch mains in commercial and residential districts. The work runs through April 1, 1924, improving fire protection and standardizing the system for mercantile areas.

Weather Update May 7 Dallas and Texas Regions

Weather across Dallas area and East Texas shows partly cloudy to unsettled conditions tonight and Friday with light to variable winds. West Texas may see partly cloudy skies with probable thunder showers in the Panhandle. Temperatures yesterday ranged from 86 in Corpus Christi to 94 in San Antonio with Cameron at 90. Showers were reported in Tennessee and central Oklahoma.

Summer School Begins at Yor High

The summer term runs ten weeks from June 11 to August 17 with classes from eight to noon, six days a week. Tuition is twenty dollars for the full term, payable at the start, and students may take new courses or make up work under supervision of L. van Perkins.

Bolt of Lightning Knocks Man From Chair at Supper

While eating supper with his family near Tracy farmer Will Scheckels was struck by a bolt of lightning. He was knocked to the floor but suffered no injuries aside from a jar. The strike occurred during a severe storm and caused no damage to the home. Two mules on a nearby farm were killed and a barn burned by lightning in separate incidents.

City to sue all delinquent tax payers

City Council ordered City Attorney Paul Webb to begin immediate collection of all delinquent city taxes. The move aims to ensure fair tax burdens and may involve suit if needed. The license tax for itinerant merchants and peddlers will be raised to the maximum allowed by state law to protect local merchants.

Lightning strikes tree injures farmer at Jones Prairie

Archie McLerran was knocked down by a lightning bolt that struck a tree where he placed a water jug while plowing near Jones Prairie. He was not seriously hurt. A similar incident occurred at Tracy where a farmer was knocked from his chair while eating.

W. E. Cameron a math teacher at Cameron High School during 1919 20 with his wife and son spent a few hours Tuesday morning. Former pupils enjoyed greeting him as he stopped en route to Georgetown for the S W U jubilee celebration and Spur school superintendent duties last year.

Knife Wound Fatal in Hanover Stabbing

Frank Fisher aged about 50 died at Cameron Hospital Sunday from wounds inflicted in a fight with Lee Fuller at Hanover early Saturday night. Fisher was stabbed in the neck and jugular vein severed after a quarrel earlier in the afternoon. Fuller was arrested and admitted to bail after an inquest by Justice J. M. Ralston.

County Court Plea in Theft Case Ends in Fine and Jail

Henry Shavers pleaded guilty in county court to receiving stolen goods. He was fined 25 dollars and sentenced to 30 days in jail.
