Control Flies Before They Are A Problem
Dairy farmers can curb fly breeding by frequent manure disposal and approved chemical treatments. Spread barnyard manure every three to four days or compost it with calcium cyanamid and superphosphate. If needed, malathion spray or fly balls are usable, with precautions to avoid milk, feed, or water contamination. Dust cows with methoxychlor or malathion five hours before milking.
