Trade Trip Schedule Announced for Cameron Region

E C Cole of the Chamber of Commerce announces the first week plan for the annual trade trip to Cameron territory. The caravan departs Cameron Tuesday June 18 at 1 p m with stops at Varreliten Meeks Zabickeville and Buckholts before returning to Cameron by 6 p m.

Milam Schools Classed by Board of Education

Milam schools were classified by the Board of Education in session here this week. Buckholts was named a high school and will teach eleven grades next term, bringing Milam county high schools to seven. E. L. Henson serves as Buckholts superintendent. Buckholts requests for an extra grade were approved. Transfers from Buckholts to Cameron will pay 45 dollars tuition. With Buckholts offering 11 grades, tuition for transfers remains mandatory.

St Michael Parish Plans Program for June 16

Father Tim O'Sullivan of Burlington announced an entertainment for St Michael Parish on Sunday Jam. Beginning at 2 p.m two ball games will be played with opponents named later. Supper will be served in the public hall and proceeds go to the parish. The Burlington supper is to be held June 16 under a capable committee. The public is invited. A discussion over cowpox vaccination claims continues with reports of several cow udders located.

Not Guilty Verdict In Milam County Liquor Case

A 12 jurors found N. J. Green of Rockdale not guilty after a brief deliberation in a Milam county liquor case connected to a grand jury raid on prohibition enforcement. A Cameron liquor dealer with a $1000 federal license was arrested. his case pending. Defense was by Jack Lewis, former criminal district attorney.

Negro Boy Sent To Texas Reformatory

Jean Thomas, a negro boy, was sent to the state reformatory this week after his trial over theft of plumbing fixtures from a house owned by B Slocomb. Slocomb conducted the arrest with Constable Balling assisting. Charges against Henry Dreyer by mer city marshal were dropped for lack of evidence, announced by Emory Camp district attorney.

Railway Attorneys To Speak During Railroad Week

In observance of Railroad Week, attorneys will address local clubs and chambers. Joyce Cox of Galveston will speak for the Santa Fe System at the Chamber of Commerce on June 10, and another speaker for Bouwbers Pacific Lines is slated for Cameron on June 11.

Herald To Sponsor Milam County Checker Tournament

The Herald plans a Milam County checker tournament to crown a county champion with date to be announced. Visitors will meet Oxsheer Rice of Ben Arnold, winner of the Temple contests last week. Fenn Wolf, district clerk, will cooperate with the Herald in the coming event.

Cotton farmers sign up contracts across Milam County

Beginning Thursday June 6 Milam county cotton producers will start signing 1985 Bankhead contracts. County agent George Banzhaf says weight of 1932 bales and 1935 cotton acres are still needed. Signers from many communities will report to designated offices to complete agreements and mark rented cotton acreage before July compliance work.

The first anniversary of Green & Boedeker stores in Cameron ran May 31 to June 3. Despite poor weather a large crowd visited the Cameron store, with widespread congratulatory publicity in the Cameron Herald. The section printed a 24 page edition and many ads extended congratulations.

Trainer killed by enraged elephant in Covina scene

In Covina California trainer Joe Reed was fatally gored and mutilated by a large ball elephant during rehearsals for an eight elephant jungle motion picture. The accident occurred while the animals were being prepared for an appearance.
