Private Frank P. Mikulec of an infantry division serving in France is wounded in action on July 17. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mikulec Sr., of Marak, received a War Department telegram at midnight Tuesday. Mikulec enlisted November 1940, went to England in 1945, and had prior service at Fort Sam Houston Camp McCoy and in Louisiana and Wisconsin.

Heat Wave Strikes Local Area with 104 Degree High
The heat wave pushed temperatures to 104 here on Wednesday, the government weather bureau observer Richard Hester reported. A prior reading on July 19 reached 108 degrees as officials released a day by day tally of heat since July 17.

Brewster Sherrill a former Ben Arnold resident and brother of Frank Sherrill died in Hot Springs Arkansas on Friday July 21 1944 at 3 am. He worked as a lineman for Southwestern Bell and earlier for an Arkansas oil company. Surviving are his brother Frank Sherrill of Ben Arnold and relatives in Munsee County.
