60 Guardsmen Return Home With 49th Unit
Sixty members of Milam's Company C 3rd Medium Tank Brigade will be mustered out of federal service in ceremonies at Cameron Armory at 4 30 p m August 9. Commanded by 1st Lt Verner L Wunsch of Temple the Milam Guard tankers completed almost 10 months of active duty. The 49th was called Oct 15 1961 and duty ends at midnight August 9.

Man 48 Shoots Self Near Sharp in Temple Area
A 48 year old man identified as Lindhorst is in critical condition at Temple hospital after a self inflicted gunshot to the head. Sheriff Black and Justice McDonald report the 22 caliber rifle used and that the injured man was found in his pickup near a Sharp community tank. He was rushed from Cameron to St. Edward and then Scott and White in Temple.

Thorndale Produces Milam County’s First Cotton Bale

Army Pvt. Ladie J. Evan 23, based at Fort Wainwright Yuk on Command Alaska, earned a winter safe driving award for an exemplary safety record amid extreme conditions. He entered service in 1961 after basic training at Fort Carson and arrived in Alaska last November. his wife Donna resides in Dimmitt and his parents live in Cameron.
