Home Demonstration Club Holds Meeting
The Ben Arnold Home Demonstration Club met July 18 at 9 a.m. with 26 members. Lessons included apron pattern adjustment for two sizes, cutting 26 aprons and caps, cooking lessons on salad dressing and pots to salad, and afternoon canning lessons to prepare members for the Short Course contest July 23 to 28. Eula Collings was chosen to lead. Cameron Commercial Club arranged for two Milem county girls to represent at the tomato canning contest, with the Buckholts club supplying another participant.

First 1923 cotton bale ginned near Ben Arnold
The first bale of 1923 cotton was ginted Thursday morning by Weems Gin for H. M. Mineer on the Peoples farm near the Watt plantation two miles from Ben Arnold. Weighing 3960 pounds from 1200 pounds of seed cotton, it was displayed at the local cotton exchange and sold at auction at one o’clock Thursday afternoon.

White Man Held in Negro Murder Case Near San Gabriel
A white man, A. L. Berry, was arrested today in connection with the discovery of Robert Williams a black man found shot to death in high weeds by the San Gabriel River. Another black man is also being held. secrecy surrounds the case as investigators link gambling activity along the river bottom. Williams last left home with a shotgun stating he would swim and hunt. Berry appeared before the Justice Court and was released on a $1000 bond after questioning by the district attorney.
