Funeral Services Held July 15 For Homer Haddox Sr
Funeral services for Homer Haddox Sr were held Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Milano Baptist Church with Rev. Broadus officiating. Graveside rites were by the I O O F Lodge and Phillips Luckey Funeral Home of Rockdale. Haddox died at 83 at his Milano home and was a retired barber. He is survived by his widow Mattie, one daughter Mittie Burgess of Rockdale and five sons Homer, Johnnie, Lewis of Milano Joe of Rockdale and Jimmie of Corpus Christi.

Early Morning Blaze Destroys Nazarene Church Annex
An early Saturday fire destroyed the living quarters of Rev. and Mrs. D. A. Lambert in the Nazarene Church annex on East 25. Lambert awoke to roof collapse at about 6 15 AM and neighbors Grady Gill and wife alerted the fire department. The blaze gutted the Lambert apartment, destroying furniture clothing and household goods with origin suspected in the kitchen.

Hal Lester Senkel of Buckholts won first prize of 20 dollars and a merit certificate for a cage of five broilers in the Milam County Junior Broiler Contest. Henry Hubnik of Cameron claimed second prize 15 dollars, with Harry Glenn Alexander of Gause third 10 dollars and Jimmy Hines of Cavilla fourth 8 dollars. Additional winners included Clyde Koenig of Burlington in fifth place. Lightning the 14 year old dog of Mr and Mrs Paul Laake died after being struck by a car while on his delivery route.

Milam County farmer Ted Ford of Baileyville harvested the first 1954 bale ginned at G. F. Wolf and Son Gin in Rosebud on July 15. The 570 pound bale from 1650 pounds of seed cotton sold for 40 cents a pound to P. R. Dupree. seeds bought by Wolf Gin for $75 a ton. Ford received a $100 premium from the Rosebud Chamber of Commerce with a future $25 from Milam County Farm Bureau.

Buckholts Modern Gin Reports First Cotton Bale
Buckholts Modern Gin reported its first bale of cotton for the season was brought in Friday July 16 by Will Janicek a farmer on the Hansford Berry farm in Val Verde. The bale weighed 632 pounds and sold to C R Criswell for 32 cents. Seed weight 1010 pounds, ginned by 2200 pounds foliage. Seed sold for 65 dollars a ton and ginned free. Wilbur Bechausen, manager, sees this as the earliest first bale in many years.

Soldier Brantley to Serve in Germany with 109th Transportation

Mrs. Annie Kruger died Monday night at 11 40 p m in St Edward Hospital after months of declining health. Born September 4 1880 in Shiner Texas she lived in Milam County for 60 years with homes in Ben Arnold Maysfield and Cameron. She was survived by her husband Herman Kruger who preceded her in death.
