Woman charged with aggravated assault after Cameron stabbing

Ernestine Clifton of Cameron was arrested Saturday night and charged with stabbing her husband George Clifton at their home at 605 Newhouse Street. Clifton was taken to Scott and White Hospital in Temple with a throat wound and was reported in satisfactory condition later that evening.

Cameron issues permit for Comlex Hardware at major intersection

The City of Cameron issued a building permit for a new hardware store to be built at the intersection of Hwys 36 and 190 and North Orchard St across from the Cameron Smokehouse. Elton Coward is the owner and the business will be called Comlex Hardware. Plans include a steel building over 6,000 square feet with rear storage and 30 plus off street parking spaces.

Inspection Fee To Double City Sales Tax Rebates

State Comptroller Bob Bullock reports Cameron rebates up 28 percent this year with July city sales tax share at 4707 dollars versus 2952 last July. Rockdale rebates rise 22 percent with July 4369 dollars vs 1912 in 1976. year to date totals 63582 and 50427 respectively. Captain Billy Sanders announces vehicle inspection fee raise from 2 to 4 dollars starting September 1 1977 with 3 dollars for labor and shop use and 1 dollar for sticker and administration. mud flap inspections added and vehicle defects linked to a small share of accidents.

Antique Car Show Set For Downtown Cameron Mall

Cameron area Chamber of Commerce announces an antique car show for October 1 at the downtown Cameron mall. The Horseless Carriage Club from Houston will display antique cars with a Model T drawing benefiting show expenses. Tickets available from trade committee members or the Chamber office.

Annexation Plans Split City Council on First Reading

A Tuesday night vote split the city council as 380 acres were set for annexation. Councilmen Tommy Corley and Lincoln Mondick opposed the measure while Dale Smith Ernest Moore and Jan Luecke supported it. A separate unanimous vote approved pursuing the intention to keep pasture land in its current state under current ownership. Msgr Geiser Ends 18 Years as Cameron Pastor

Msgr John Geiser will retire as pastor of St Monica s Catholic Church Cameron after 18 years. A luncheon honoring him will be held at Simon George Hall Sunday July 24 sponsored by St Monica s Ladies Society. The parish has about 400 families and 1600 people after consolidating with Blessed Sacrament Church.
