ICA Convention Hears Governor and Leaders of Cattle Industry

The first annual Independent Cattlemen's Association of Texas convention drew 1500 attendees from 15 districts in Austin. Governor Dolph Briscoe, U S Representative J J Pickle, and Texas Agriculture Commissioner John C White spoke endorsing beef producers' aims and criticizing federal land use and foreign beef imports. New officers were elected and key resolutions backed domestic beef use, land use tax formulas, agricultural product labeling, and import limits. ICA, formed in 1974 after the U S meat import surge, now claims over 100000 members as the largest non affiliated cattle group in the United States.
