Bids require cashier's or certified check at least 5 percent of the largest bid and 100 percent bond. The city may reject bids and set wage rates. The Minerva-Rockdale Field led Central Texas in oil production with 38,082 barrels in 1952, raising its all time total to 4,010,852 barrels. Thirty operators remain active in the field. Thrall Field ranked second with 14,200 barrels, bringing its cumulative total to 2,179,386 barrels, dating from its 1915 discovery. Mrs. Jack Hood of Brady visited the Lee Fuller home. she has worked as a nurse at Brady Hospital for three years.
The City of Cameron invites bids for water works improvements to support a new 300000 gallon tower. Bids are due by 7 50 p m August 5 1953. The tower replaces a 175000 gallon standpipe near Milam County Jail, with construction by Chicago Bridge and Steel Company at 52280 and completion by May 1954.
The Highway and Good Roads Committee of the Chamber of Commerce plans to visit the State Highway Commission in Austin on July 28 to press for reconstruction of State Highway 36 from the Y junction of U S 77 east of the Little River to the intersection with State Highway 79 in Milano. Committee members include E A Perrin chairman Lester Williams Milton Schiller Henry Liebman Bill Burns and Charles Brady.
Mr and Mrs Floyd Rider and their sons of Michigan visit Mr and Mrs H M Maddox. Mrs Rider was Mary Catherine Claxton. After living in Texas then Michigan for four years they plan to move their home to Cameron.
HM-8 Thomas Harrison, after about three years in the Navy, spends leave with his mother Mrs. Alma Houston. He works as an X ray technician at the Naval Receiving Station Bainbridge Maryland. Her other son AMAN Joe Bill Harrison serves aboard the USS Princeton in Korean waters for two and a half years and goes to church Sunday.
W. G. Biskup of the U S Naval Reserve Training Center in Waco says vacancies exist for Milam County personnel in the Naval Reserve Surface Division 8 107. The unit meets every Wednesday night at Waco Technical High School from 7:80 to 9:30 p m. Openings are for ex service personnel and for men 17 to 18 with no prior military service.
