Downtown Houston renewal area reshapes old hotel and tram sites
The downtown renewal plan halves the two story height of the old hotel at Houston and Gillis and removes the first of two empty tram houses near Houston and Second St. Antique signs and materials found in old buildings will be saved for future use or display. Volunteers support summer sports with Lions clubs donating funds for baseball, and city and CISD aiding tennis as swimming and diving programs expand at municipal and Cameron Country Club pools.

Demolition Begins On Old St. Edward Hospital Site
Demolition of the 57 year old St. Edward Rischar Memorial Hospital starts Monday with a late November completion. Graham Construction Co. of Cameron was the low bidder for removing the three story brick building. The hospital opened in 1914 as Cameron Hospital and later became St. Edward Rischar Memorial Hospital after 1946. Police report a busy weekend with nine drunken arrests and several disturbances at local venues including Chat and Chew Bubba's Place and a break in at the Honey B Club. A Cameron CVO dance is set for Saturday July 17 at Simon George Hall from 8 to 12 with admission of 1.25.

Commissioners Appoint Milam County Election Judges
County Commissioners met in the county courtroom to appoint election judges through 1972 and discuss foster home support and a potential state financed mental health clinic. Roy Boutwell requested $2000 for a Milam County foster home program. the panel will study the request. Judge Harden said Austin State Hospital will provide more information before the next meeting.

Ka Hugh Enterprises of Houston drilled two new wells in Milbur and Burmil Fields. No 4 E. A. Cotton in Burmil produced 105 barrels daily from Navarro B at 3 584 90 feet and was spudded April 25. Essie M Camp in Milbur, with 100 acre lease in Milam County, shows promise from Navarro B with storage tanks rising. no production figure reported yet.
