Washington reports farmers planting record acreages of corn wheat oats white and sweet potatoes and rice. Projections show corn at 2.814 billion bushels and wheat at 963 million, with production exceeding six year averages across most crops as July 1 growing conditions improve.
Milano residents discuss price advertising and its effect on local shopping. The Milano Gazette notes three people spent 51.75 cash for repairs sent by freight, blaming Cameron stores ads for drawing business both locally and from afar. J D Dobbins recalls selling price bills to Milano parties who saw Herald ads and saved money.
Mr. R. L. Batte returns from the Cotton Seed Crushers Convention in Corpus Christi. He notes South Texas crops are healthy and the cotton crop may be heavy. He predicts farmers can secure a reasonable price this fall if they market cotton gradually. Batte, Milam county’s leading grower, says the county will produce much cotton but not as early due to overflows, and expects ample prairie corn while bottom land corn needs favorable conditions.
The death of Mr. H. Thorp occurred Tuesday at the local sanitarium after an injury sustained nine days earlier in a workplace accident. Friends and family in this town and Gause mourn his loss.
A native of Illinois aged 48 died after being brought to Cameron following illness. He was taken to his home in Gause, then brought to Cameron Sanitarium where he was made comfortable until the end. Survived by a brother, wife and several children. Remains carried to Gause for interment.
A Burlington Texas man thanks The Herald for space to publically praise Cameron’s Sanitarium and surgeon Dr Rischar. He notes his wife had a fifty pound tumor removed from the abdominal cavity and is now recovering at home, able to care for their family. Published July 8 1915.
The Rev. Dr. Richard M. Hardman, Rector, announces regular services at All Saints Church Cor Travis Ave and Third St North. Sunday School 9:45 a.m. Morning Prayer and Sermon 11:00 a.m. Evensong and Sermon 8:15 p.m. Holy Communion first and third Sundays 11:00 a.m. and second and fourth Sundays 7:30 a.m. Wednesday Evening Prayer and ten minute address. Everyone welcome.
Civic notes report a new retaining wall at the City Park ravine finished with a large drain pipe underneath. The area above was reclaimed with street debris and dirt and will soon be sod for use as a playground, with plans for a concrete dam in the future.
The Hoyte Truck Growers Association reports their hall near completion to host meetings and benefit the community. The Ladies of Hoyte Community form a Council of Texas Farm Women aligned with state and university aims to promote farm welfare. The note discusses Pellagra, crop prices, cotton market concerns, and praise for local grape grower Frank Hubert.
Hon. J. K. Freeman of this city has been named as the seventh member of the State Mining Board. The seven member board includes three mine operators and three miners, with Freeman expected to provide impartial decisions.

Has Our Thanks Mr H G Sanders of Camer on Route 1 called at the Herald office Friday paying a dollar and a half on his subscription. Sanders is a county truck grower and farmer who brought a monster red-skin onion and announced plans to start a home mill.
The County Clerk records show E B White transferring lots 17 18 19 and 20 in block 28 Buckholts to W S Henderson this week. The filing indicates a recorded conveyance of property in Buckholts.
Texas records for May list 8,782 births including 42 twin sets and 2,559 deaths. Tuberculosis caused 306 deaths, diarrhea and enteritis 241 among under twos, with notable infant fatalities and several supercentenarian deaths in Texas counties. Smallpox 7 deaths among 153 cases reported.
N. J. Alford transfers lot 32 in Smith Ackermann addition to Rockdale to Scarbrough Hicks Co for 525.83 dollars. Buckholt’s block 33 parcels 4 and 5 convey to unknown party for 100 dollars.
Development work at Thrall yields discouraging outside-proven-area tests with possible extensions. Rich Hill Oil Co on Stauffer farm south of Fuchs hilltop is dry at 1000 feet. Fuchs No 2 on Krieg farm dry at 1100 feet. Guffey No 1 on Lawrence farm reaches chalk at 1470 feet. Granger Petroleum five miles north is shut for repairs.
Rockdale defeats Hoyte 11 to 1 as Marshall fruitsed by hard hits and infield defense. Reese pitched well for Hoyte with thirteen strikeouts but poor team support left Hoyte short. Key Hoyte players Nicholson Parson Ethridge and Batey were sidelined early, crippling the lineup.
Mr. Will Overton known as Watermelon Bill brought a large Tom Watson variety melon to The Herald. L G Tabler also presented three large melons. Fourteen Boy Scouts and leaders left at 4 AM for a weeklong camp fourteen miles from the city, led by Scout Master W G Gillis and Assistant Robert Pool with patrol leader Fred Meyers.
The Killeen Herald notes Boone Seay aged 24, a ticket agent in Cameron Texas, has an exceptional railroad career with 2920 work days and only 30 days missed. His parents Mr and Mrs J W Seay in Killeen are proud as Boone and wife with two children spend the Fourth with relatives.
The proposed amendments include expanding the supreme court from three to five justices, allowing counties to create a student loan fund, permitting a local road tax up to fifty cents per hundred dollars, authorizing bonds for public improvements such as drainage and levees, enabling traveling salesmen to vote on election day, and the Sackett resolutions separating the Texas University from Texas A&M College.
Two Mile Prairie couple Kirk Gorman Kirk and Miss Bessie Burris wed Sunday June 27 with Rev. Ector Beck officiating. The bride and groom are well known and respected in their community, ending four years of courtship, per the Gause Guide.
The Herald notes the splendid friend of Mr. F C Wolfe residing in Sharp country visited Cameron on Friday.
