Milam Pastor Named Texas Rural Minister of the Year
Rev. William R. Parmer of San Gabriel Baptist Church San Gabriel is named Texas Rural Minister of the Year among 14 ministers from the South honored by the Progressive Farmer and Emory University School of Theology Emory Atlanta. Certificates will be presented at a July 11 banquet and he will be honored at the Texas Rural Church Conference.

Narcotics Experts Probe Missing Morphine Tablets in New Cameron
Federal Narcotic Bureau and the Texas Rangers search for about 300 morphine type tablets missing from Ear Curtis Drug in New Cameron since June 19. Three bottles of Dilaudid were also taken while the store was open. Curtis reported reviewing narcotics inventory when the loss was discovered.

Milam County banks report higher June figures led by Citizens National at 10,070,472.01 and First National Bank Cameroun at 4,625,547.78. Rockdale State Bank and Thorndale State Bank also posted gains while Buckholts State Bank dipped from last June.

Western Week highlights in Cameron end with Miss Western Week 1962
Cameron Western Days featured guns queens travelers parades horses cowboys clowns and entertainment. Mona Mauldin received the Miss Western Week 1962 trophy at the 61st Horse Show in Wilson Ledbetter Park. Travelers were treated to lunch at the Texan after visits with the Chamber of Commerce. The event included pony and twist contests winners and an elaborate parade with floats Yee High School band and a rockdale entry with oxen.

Youth Receives Suspended Sentence for Robbery by Assault
A. C. Potts of Hearne pleaded guilty in Milam District Court to robbery by assault. Judge Wallace sentenced Potts to a probated five year term after evidence showed no prior record. Potts was accused of robbing Shed Smoots of Gause on March 4 of 36 dollars with restitution required.

Red Cross Drive Reaches Record North Milam Total
The North Milam Red Cross drive raised a record 3215.49 this week with rural donors, and Hall workers added 2950 to push beyond 3200. Contributions by business 1453.50 and residential 833.69 helped meet goals, with 31 Cameron businessmen and 40 rural workers named by Mrs Walter Lester.
