Extension Granted For Food Stamps
The United States Department of Agriculture extended the use of old food stamps to August 31 for 50 cent, two dollar and five dollar stamps. A new dollar five and ten series was issued March 1 with a June 30 deadline for spending old stamps, extended to help recipients issued old coupons in March April and May. Grocers and meal services may redeem old coupons at commercial banks through September 40.

Two Auto Crashes Reported in Milam County over Fourth Weekend
Milam County troopers logged two weekend crashes near Cameron and Temple. Ronald Miller, in a single car crash on FM 485 near Cameron, was initially listed in critical condition but later improved at Scott and White Hospital Temple. Virgil Snowgren of Temple struck a road horse on Highway 190 east of the Highway 77 junction. Snowgren was hospitalized with injuries while the horse died.

Melba P. Lowman, 68, was found with two .38 caliber bullet wounds in her Rockdale home and remains in critical condition at Scott and White Hospital.
