Tennis participation rises with the Waco Open tripling in size over three years. Ed Cauley and the 1975 Yeomen football team ranked No 1 in AA, facing high pressure to defend the top spot. Cameron football receives top regional praise for local leadership and potential.
Robertson County reports its first live screwworm case since 1972 with June 26 samples from a calf navels and a Bell County find on June 13. Milam County livestock and pets are advised to monitor wounds and submit samples to AIHIS Mission for ID. control begins after confirmation.
Seven Milam County girls compete for the Farm Bureau Queen at the Cameron Methodist Fellowship Hall on Saturday night July 12 beginning at 8 p.m. Contestants include Sandra Schneider Nan Noack Mary Lee Graham Mary Hanel Karen Kamenicky Terry Lynn Owen and Eleanor Svetlik. The winner advances to the district contest then state level.
A Gause event is set for Wednesday July 23 at 7 30 p m in the Gause Community Center. The community receives 300 dollars for first place in the 1974 75 District 10 Community Improvement contest and second in the Regional Three judging tour along with a participation certificate for Branchville Davilla Griffin Chapel and Maysfield.
The United States Department of Agriculture extended the use of old food stamps to August 31 for 50 cent, two dollar and five dollar stamps. A new dollar five and ten series was issued March 1 with a June 30 deadline for spending old stamps, extended to help recipients issued old coupons in March April and May. Grocers and meal services may redeem old coupons at commercial banks through September 40.
Milam County troopers logged two weekend crashes near Cameron and Temple. Ronald Miller, in a single car crash on FM 485 near Cameron, was initially listed in critical condition but later improved at Scott and White Hospital Temple. Virgil Snowgren of Temple struck a road horse on Highway 190 east of the Highway 77 junction. Snowgren was hospitalized with injuries while the horse died.
Melba P. Lowman, 68, was found with two .38 caliber bullet wounds in her Rockdale home and remains in critical condition at Scott and White Hospital. Notes found at the scene suggest personal safety related motives. a revolver was used. Cameron police report a quiet Fourth of July with no major accidents in the city.
