The Thorndale Champion notes Dr H Roepke announces candidacy for County Commissioner in precinct 4. Vouches for his familiarity with local needs and financial insight. A public meeting is set for January 26 at 10 o clock in the county superintendent's office to discuss the campaign and related events.
A county tournament to decide the Coun ty Interscholastic League championship will be held at Rockdale High School on February 1 and 2. Teams will draw opponents with a first round eliminating all but four, and the two survivors will meet in the final on Saturday after 10 oclock starts.
Temple writer recalls the 1880 Rockdale Messenger Extra issued during Milam County Cameron Rockdale seceder fight. The three column hand bill denounced bribers liars and swindlers amid a bond dispute over a Rockdale court house. Names include R J Boykin W L Luther W B Woody Hale FE M Scarbrough Thos Hudson J W Ferry.
Truett Blaylock son of Rev B B Blaylock formerly served as Rockdale Baptist minister and relocates to Rockdale. The brief notice notes his church role and family ties in the local clergy.
Truett, a former Rockdale resident now moving his wife and two children from Cameron, has pursued ministerial work for four years with two years at Fort Worth Baptist Seminary. He plans supply work or a country call while saving to finish school, hoping to follow his father’s path as a citizen and minister.
The State of Texas announces that T. F. Criswell as administrator of the estate of Joseph Zapalac Sr. has filed a final account and an application to be discharged. The Milam County Court will hear the matter on the first Monday in February 1924 at Cameron Court House. Interested parties are urged to appear and contest if proper. Clerk H. M.
