City leaders in Rockdale postponed Southwestern Bell Telephone Co rate hike after hour long talks at City Hall. Aldermen said residents deserve improved service before any price rise, shelving the request indefinitely.

Belton to vote on $350000 sewer bond Feb 13

Belton city council set a $350000 sewer revenue bond election for February 13 contingent on federal funds. Bonds would be issued only if needed for sewer line construction to serve residents not yet on the system, about 29 percent of homes.

Georgetown Votes To Stay Dry

Williamson County Justice Precinct 1 voters chose to keep alcohol off premises after 1884, with 1177 against and 803 for in Georgetown’s local option election. A record turnout of 1980 voters braved cold wet wind to cast ballots.

Trial Date Set For Swift in 1972 Kelly Slaying

The pre-trial hearing for John E. Swift occurs in 54th District Court with trial set for January 22. Swift faces murder charges for the May 17 1972 slaying of Henry C. Kelly and the killings of his wife Reola and daughter Nancy Stovall. A change of venue moved the case from Robertson County to McLennan County due to local prominence and publicity.

Winter Snow Hits Milam County With Record Low

Milam Countians woke to a winter wonderland after a three inch snowfall with sleet. Cameron schools reopened as the only district in the county. Two buses were pulled from ditches and roads iced over as 13 degree low set a yearly record. Snow depths across Central Texas ranged 1.5 to 4.5 inches, heaviest since 1966.

FHA Approves 200000 Loan for Pond Creek Watershed

The Farmers Home Administration approved a 200000 loan to the Pond Creek Watershed Authority of Falls and Milam counties to prevent flooding and protect roads and bridges through erosion control. The loan, repayable over 40 years at 3.649 percent, funds domestic and livestock water supply for several communities under the Rural Community Facilities program.

Symphony Day Declared as Milam County Readies Dallas Symphony

Milam County Judge O B Harden proclaims Tuesday January 16 1973 Symphony Day in honor of the Dallas Symphony performing two Cameron Milam events. The afternoon student concert includes Cameron area districts and the evening program at the National Guard Armory features Brusilow conducting works by Berlioz Strauss Mendelssohn and Stravinsky with regional sponsors and grants totaling 3500.
