TP&L Plans To Let 26 Million In 63 Contracts

TP and L plans to spend about 26.1 million dollars in 1963 on new facilities including the first stage of a steam electric generating unit whose site will be announced later. W W Lynch TP&L president said studies will determine the unit size and that it will be the largest on the TP&L system. Much of 1963 funds will go to continue a 345000 volt transmission line project with three other electric companies. New 138000 volt lines will run from Stryker Creek to Lufkin and Dublin to Brownwood. Transmission service will improve in the Tyler area and Mesquite Seagoville Ferris Hutchins area. Right of way purchases will begin for other lines. Substations will be built in Richardson and Carrollton and some offices remodeled in 1963. Improvements to distribution systems are planned. Lynch cited Edison Electric Institute data showing 1982 US capacity at about 199.9 million kilowatts, with the US well ahead of the Soviet Union. He noted planned large transmission lines will expand nationwide grid coverage. From 1960 to 1970 investor owned companies plan about 100000 more miles of backbone lines costing over 8 billion dollars.
