Perry appeals FEMA decision on hurricane aid
Governor Rick Perry on December 19 appealed FEMA's denial of an extension for Hurricane Ike relief. He sought 18 more months of 100 percent reimbursement for emergency protective measures debris removal and related work, arguing Texans deserve equal treatment to Louisiana after Katrina. Education progress ratings show 75 percent of Texas schools and 67 percent of districts met or exceeded federal AYP in 2008. Texas may gain seats in 2010.
