Pioneer Cameron Merchant S. W. Cheeves Dies at 62
S. W. Cheeves, Cameron pioneer business man, banker, and landowner, died suddenly December 25, 1930, of a stroke on a Belmena farm trip with his son in law Fontaine Flinn. Born in Alabama in 1868, he built a long career from Meridian to Cameron, amassing holdings across Texas including First National Bank of Cameron and Cheeves Bros. & Co. His funeral was held December 27 at First Methodist Church with Masonic rites at Oak Hill cemetery.

John Crawford pioneer resident of Cameron died December 31 1950 at home after long illness. Born February 11 1854 in Tennessee he moved from Kentucky to Cameron in 1882 and married Mary Susan Turner in 1879. Survived by his widow two sons one brother one sister ten grandchildren and a great grandchild. funeral January 19 at 2 30 p m at the First Christian church with Rev Joel B Hardigree and Oak Hill Cemetery interment.

Harley Saddler Home Robbed in Sweetwater
Thieves entered the luxury home of Mr. and Mrs. Harley Saddler in Sweetwater while the couple were in San Angelo for a week long theatre engagement. About $3700 in goods were taken including a $1500 brown mink cape, silverware and Christmas gifts. Mrs. Saddler, formerly Miss Bill Massengale of Cameron, was away in the house.

New Bus Line From Cameron to Brenham Approved

Fossil Bones Found In Well On Vogelsang Farm
Fossil bones believed to be ancient remains were found last week in a well dug on the Vogelsang farm near Burlington. The bones lay 16 to 20 feet deep in yellow clay during work by August Frei on the Earnest Vogelsang place. Reporter Jos S Schiller, visiting The Herald Office, reported the discovery from Cameron. Milam county is noted for fossil remains and gravel deposits yield many.

Mayor Chambers Hurt in Auto Accident North of Chilton
Mayor W. W. Chambers sustained minor injuries when his Ford coupe struck a bridge abutment on the Waco road. The car overturned and was badly damaged, but the mayor recovered enough to be at his office the next day. Friends report he escaped serious harm.

Sebesta Heroically Rescues Family From City Home Fire
Mr. Sebesta suffered severe burns to the neck ears and head and his left forearm as he woke his family and led them to safety during a fast moving blaze in the southwestern part of the city. The home and contents were destroyed with no salvage possible.
