Emory B Camp faces the drunk driving menace in Milam County while new survey data on Texas highway deaths highlight truck crashes and alcohol related risks. The piece rails against careless policy, praises local Cameron merchants, and ends with a tongue in cheek song title proposal.
The county plans two new offices space under the courthouse with relief labor to cost about 5000 dollars. Rest rooms for men and women will be built and the old unsanitary building will be discontinued. If assessor and collector move to the basement, the old building may be torn down. The County Interscholastic League Meet will be held in Cameron March 15 and 16.
Green & Boedeker advertise a large late February sale with a large stock and value pricing. Leland Green notes the stores have seen strong countywide business as hundreds of new homes in Cameron receive savings.
In Gause Bowling confessed to stalking Burt Williams, following his wagon with corn, hitting him twelve times with a black jack sprout to rob about 300 dollars. Williams survived after days in a hospital. Bowling disclosed the assault while under arrest for a separate school-building fire.
Sheriff Kennedy believes John Ward and Maurice Bowling, fugitives who escaped a county jail early last week, may be headed toward California. A Chevrolet Coupe stolen by the pair was found abandoned near Alpine in Brewster County, identified by dense bureau operatives via information from the sheriff. They are charged with arson in the Gause high school fire of May 1934.
Mauritz Baldwin Company opens Friday at 10 a m with refreshments for visitors. The display focuses on farm machinery and hardware and offers special opening arrangements. International Harvester McCormick Deering implements will be sold by the Cameron agency led by manager J T Baldwin who invites all to attend.
Emory Schnexnaider received a prison term in District Court for auto theft uncovered by officers in Louisiana. Geo Worly was found guilty with a companion but given a suspended sentence. District Attorney Emory R. B. Camp said no further cases were disposed of this week.

Carl Henderson of Port Sullivan was released on bond of £1500 after a hearing before Justice of Peace Womack Brashear on charges of stealing an automobile from H N Maddox near Elm Ridge. The Maddox car was taken January 20 at 0 30 p m and later recovered in Waco with L A Bletsch. Henderson was arrested in Houston on Sheriff Max Kennedy's information and is suspected of selling or trading the car to Bletsch.
Tom Jackson, 58, a former Cameron building contractor, died Tuesday at 7 p.m. after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at Rogers on Wednesday. A son from El Paso attended the service. The Coleman Funeral Home transported the body.
Walker Henderson former county surveyor has received state surveyor’s license after an exacting examination held here recently. The license allows him to conduct land surveys in any Texas county and his work will be legal statewide. His high grade on the exam is noted and friends express gladness at his achievement.
Cameron banks will be closed Saturday to observe Texas Independence Day and the birth date of Sam Houston.
The 1985 Master Chevrolet is showcased in Grabein Chevrolet Company showrooms with high praise for its design and engineering. The firm plans to keep the display through the weekend as orders accumulate and two car loads of standard models arrive this week.
Cameron Ice & Cold Storage Company teams with Southwestern Ice Manufacturers Association for 13 radio programs called Ice Carnival of the Air. Starting Thursday March 7 at 6 p.m. on WRAP KPRC and WOAL a weekly contest will award a 100 pound air conditioned refrigerator, with Coolerator displays upcoming in Cameron.
Mrs. Sam Houston died at her Cameron home after a lingering illness. Funeral Sunday at 2 40 p m from the residence with Rev J Coy Williams officiating. Interment in Oak Hill cemetery. She was born in Marshall Texas daughter of Dr Samuel Howell Cole and Mrs Martha Elizabeth Cole. She lived in Cameron most of her life aside from three years in Elgin. She joined the Methodist church as a girl and remained an active member.
District Judge Graham Gillis appointed jury commissioners for the March term listing W. F. Sharpe Cameron Rob ert Poe Thorndale T. C. Wilson Gause The commission selected the grand jury and retired Judge Kemp named another county commission listing R. A. Hairaton Rockdale G. C. McCall Yarrellton E. Scales Watson Branch They selected juries for the April June and August guest terms of court.
County detectives lead a probe into the discovery of a 7 to 8 month old boy buried at a city dump site. Criminal District Attorney Emory B. Camp Justice Womack Brashear Sheriff Max Kennedy all oversee the inquiry amid calls to address the long standing problem of abandoned infants.
Hollywood advance notes promise an unusual release. The Cameron Theatre opens the film on Sunday featuring Freddie Bartholomew as a prodigy child star hailed as a major screen find since Jackie Coogan.
Joe Navratil died Monday at 5 am at his Cameron home after a lingering illness. Rev Frank Horak conducted the funeral at the family residence with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery. Born in Czechoslovakia, he came to America as a child and lived in Cameron for years as a janitor at Yor High School.
McLane and McLane advertise a month end sale with big food bargains in Milam county. The Herald promotes their message of better foods at large savings to thousands of homes as the March promotion reaches the Main Street store and surrounding area.
