In grateful memory of friends who have gone away this column stands by in silence to express sorrow. For some the near who are always dear, have died. For others, friends speak to us no more. Human experience has found no grief as poignant as death. The dust of each we shall moisten with a tear.
Dr. A. S. Epperson, Cameron physician and schoolmate of J. P. Buchannan, recalls their Austin College days in Washington county. Buchannan died in Washington and funeral services are planned in Brenham on Friday. He helped Epperson elect him county attorney in 1890 and was praised as a good man and student.
Organization of a Charter Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi is now in progress in Cameron. Mrs. Ida S. Norvell is here this week to organize the chapter. Mrs. W. T. Hefley will be educational director and Mrs. W. G. Gillis is sponsor for the sorority. Mrs. Norvell will host a tea Friday afternoon and will entertain 4 dinner in the evening.
A parish mission will be conducted at St. Monica's Church in Cameron from March 7 to March 14. Father Apel, the pastor, announced it and Rev. James Dress will conduct the mission.
J. K. Freeman, a renowned Dallas lawyer and financier, died suddenly at his apartment at 7:30 am from a heart stroke. The long‑time bar member and exacting partner of T. S. Henderson and Sam Streetman, his death marks the loss of one of Texas’s early development era legal figures.
Mrs. Ira Perry, 40, died in a Houston hospital Wednesday morning after an emergency operation. Survived by husband, two daughters Rebecca 18 and June 9, her parents Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Wallace of Cameron, two sisters and two brothers. Burial planned in Rockdale.

Thomas S. Henderson 78 widely known Texan and Midam County pioneer died at his Cameron home after a stroke February ten he passed away peacefully February 12 with family at his bedside Born January 12 1859 at Old Washington on the Brazos he was the son of Thomas S and Harriett Red Henderson The article notes his Southern slave owning family background and arrival to Texas in 1845.
Former Baylor College students in Belton form a 21 member alumni club. The organizing meeting was held Wednesday at Rev. Vernon G. Miles home with talks by Dr. J. C. Hardy and Mrs. Reba Wallace McFarland. Mrs. Miles serves as president and Miss Mable Jeter as secretary. Names of members to follow.
Antonio Peane an 85 year old Mexican inmate of the County Home was fatally struck by a Santa Fe passenger train near Hoyte at 12 30 last Monday He was taken to Cameron Hospital where he died that night Officials said he suffered from mental disease and had wandered from the home prior to the accident
E. A. Perrin, Cameron School Board superintendent for three years, has been offered a two year contract. His term saw notable progress including the construction of a vocational and physical education building.
Cameron is among six Texas cities to gain a 25 percent decrease in fire insurance effective March 1 as announced by the state insurance department. Local agents cite the city fire department’s strong record and prudent underwriting as the main reasons, with Cameron’s policies saving about 12 000 dollars.
Funeral services for Mrs. D W Humphries 36 were held at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs KE J Rinn in Sharp. She died February 19 1937 in Notasula Alabama after a long illness. Burial was in White Church cemetery near Sharp. She leaves a husband two sons Neal 8 Lynn 7 and several Rinn relatives.
B F Wiese of Jones Prairie visited Cameron on Monday bringing a tusk from a wild boar killed 49 years ago by his father at Block House Springs near Cross Roads. His father the late W G C Wiese shot the boar and removed the six inch curled tusk. He recalled staying in a tree to avoid the boars that roamed the area.

Monday night Cameron school board offered Coach Wood a two year contract with a salary increase. The Yoemen football coach is expected to sign soon and return to lead the team.
The American Tamburitza String Orchestra will perform at the Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet on March 9, illustrating Jugoslav or South Slavic music. The tamburitza, the oldest Christian string instrument, traces its origins to Croatian shepherds in the fifth century and influenced later mandolin development.
H A Witliff, longtime official of the Texas Power Light Company, is promoted to store keeper for the New Mexico system. He will depart soon for Hobbs New Mexico to assume his duties.
William G. Gillis of Cameron, son of Judge and Mrs Gray ham Gillis, ranks second in a group of 17 on Schreiner Institute’s honor list for the semester. Gillis earned all A's and leads in student activities as a football letterman and track candidate, Phi Theta Kappa member, Presbyterian-Schreiner Sunday School president, military sergeant, Glee Club member, and mathematics assistant.
The 10587 crop program details reached George Banzhaf county agent and are discussed in a morning statement. The outline will be printed next week. it closely mirrors the 1036 plan with several crops reclassified.
Emergency crop and feed loans for 1987 are now available in Cameron Texas through H C Connally of the Farm Credit Administration. Loans up to 400 dollars assist farmers with immediate cash needs if they cannot obtain credit elsewhere. Loans require a first lien on crops or livestock and waivers by landlords. Approved checks are issued by the Regional Emergency Crop and Feed Loan Offices in Dallas.
The Yoemen face Belton Tigers in a rescheduled Tuesday game at 7 30 p m with implications for top place. Belton beat Yoemen 24 21 at Belton and Yoemen seek revenge to affect final standings as Cameron and Rosebud loom. The Yoe High teachers meet Hearne teachers at 8 30. Yoemen previously lost 16 14 to Navasota in district play. Grimes County champions edged them with a late field goal.
