Mrs S P Cross widow of Sterling Price Cross and Cameron pioneer, died Saturday in Austin. Relatives in Cameron were notified and will accompany the body home. Funeral likely Sunday with Rev John C Solomon officiating. Survived by three sons Price Harry and Paden Cross and a daughter Mrs Louis Krough of San Antonio.

Robert J Bennett of Cameron son of Mr and Mrs Bob Bennett is home on furlough from the Pacific Fleet. The Sea Wolf submarine sailor completed months of training and awaits deployment. He plans about 10 more days in Cameron before returning to his ship on the west coast. He notes the navy submarine service is tough and only the best serve offshore. Jesse Jones, 84, Cameron native and pioneer, died in Austin on Monday February 21 1944. Funeral at Pebble Grove Cemetery near Maysfield February 22 with Rev. H M Bailey. Interment followed. Cabbage Car Delivers Food To Milam County Schools
A car of cabbage from the Rio Grande Valley arrived in Cameron for distribution by Milam County Schools Supt. Chas M Hicks. Thirty rural schools and eight independent districts in Milam will receive about half, with Falls county receiving the rest. The War Food Administration program supplies the produce, supporting farmers and aiding school meals. This marks Hicks fourth food car, following two cars of Irish potatoes and one of carrots already distributed, with more produce due.

Stalin claims 52000 Germans dead in final encirclement
Stalin announced from Moscow that 52000 German soldiers were killed and 11000 captured in the last days of the Dnieper encirclement. He said General Timoshinko led Red Army forces in the sector. Mrs Augusta Vogelsang 88 Texas pioneer died in Cameron on February 3 1944. Her life with Fritz Vogelsang shaped Milam county history after 1883 when they acquired 6000 acres near Ben Arnold. Born February 4 1856 in Oldenburg Germany she married Fritz May 21 1874 in Welcome Austin County. Four Vogelsang children continued the family legacy in Milam as pioneers.
