Waco-Rosebud Unlinked Caldwell Tied In Railroad Dispatch

Southern Pacific Railroad discharged its last train from Waco to Rosebud and Cameron Friday and scheduled a new service via Caldwell on Monday. Discontinuance of the line from Waco to Rosebud and Cameron noted.

School Insurance Awarded and Facility Use Discussed

The Cameron School Board named Baskin Insurance Co. as servicing agent for a three year period and planned to alternate agents every three years. They authorized engineering study of insurance needs and approved $10 monthly raises for two staff members. The board reviews maintenance and use of former school buildings for community use if insured and maintained. Railway changes: new Southern Pacific service will bring four trains from Caldwell to Cameron daily, speeding inbound freight. passenger service had ended in 1949.

Milam County Names Depositories for Funds

Citizens National Bank and the First National Bank of Cameron were awarded county depository contracts by Milam County Commissioners. Two thirds of funds will go to Citizens National Bank and one third to First National Bank. The court also accepted the second low bid for a motor grader, with Browning-Ferris Machinery Co. submitting $14,042. County Judge C. B. Harden noted the Carr grader at $15,350 would not be used.

Library Receives 374 From Estate for Building Fund

The Cameron Public Library received 374.29 from Miss Ma chen Rischar’s estate as a building fund gift. The will named Father Flanagan’s Boys Town and St Edward Rischar Memorial Hospital as other beneficiaries. A bronze plaque will honor the Rischar family. The gift adds to the 1966 building fund and supports new book purchases totaling about 2,500 books this year. The book committee includes Mrs. W. C. Triggs Mrs. Frank Luecke Mrs. Don G. Humble and chairman Mrs. Frank Perrin.

Cameron City weighs rural fire calls amid county contract talks

The Cameron City Council, after a county meeting, discussed continuing rural fire calls while seeking a county payment contract. Mayor Bassel Wilson said the 1941 Ford would be the sole firetruck, with a 1952 GMC also in use and a 1960 truck overhauled. Wells urged calls not to exceed halfway to Rockdale, and the council authorized a new accounting machine purchase and sewer line enforcement actions.
