An aging Charleston businessman recalls using a button hook to jimmy a locked stage door during a Chicago theater fire. A watchman, trapped behind sheet iron, levered the hook into the keyhole, freeing the crowd and sparing them a deadly crush as flames roared above.
The New York Botanical Garden houses about 5 400 species across plantings and wild areas, excluding lichens fungi and algae. In one year 48 595 herbarium specimens were acquired from around the world. About 67 040 sheets holding 112 050 specimens were added and organized in herbarium cases.

Legal notice states A L Puritey and Arta F Eplen dissolved by manual consent with liabilities and claims to be settled in Cameron Texas. Also listed are sale notices for a mule and pony near Cameron and an advertisement for Electric Bitters by S Laval of Dallas claiming health benefits and a 50 cent price at Thomas & Moore's.
Advertises Dr H Robinson of Waco Texas offering Golden Catarrh Remedies sold at Cameron Drug Co Cameron Texas. States semi annual visits to Cameron with free trial treatments for catarrh and eye ear nose throat and lung diseases. Free mail or office consultation and correspondence addressed to Dr H Robinson Waco Texas. 29-3m0 No 15 N 11th street.
Local notices promote Dr King s New Discoveries for consumption and assorted cures with testimonial claim from Rosa Richardson of Laurel Springs North Carolina. Also offers second hand survey land sale vendor s lien notes farm for sale dairy farm land lending services and farm listings in Cameron Texas with drugstore remedies and bed bug poison.
A note describes I Harper whiskey as a gentleman's pur delicious beverage and grand appetier. It mentions sales by Brewer and Wallace in Cameron Texas and Sisson's shoe shop on Belton street.

The notice also states claims against the estate of August and Bertha Boedeker must be filed, with Bernard Boedeker granted permanent administration on December 3 1900.

An ad notes solid gold plain rings and styles at H Johnson’s near the Postoffice building. It also boasts of the town’s best wood-worker Jim Coleman offering savings of 20 to 50 percent per job.
