Reichert Explains Proposed City Bond Issue

B F Reichert member of the Board of Aldermen spoke to the Cameron Rotary Club about a government plan to seek public funds for major improvements. He cited street paving and converting the old West 3rd and College grammar school into a municipal building with sketches by Mayor A W McCullin. The prior Planning Board report suggested a new municipal building in city central park and a five year plan totaling 200000 for streets, but costs were deemed prohibitive and the council did not act.

Baptist Church Wins Stucc o Contract Amid Council Rally

Prison Cruelties Are Bared By Pen Chaplain

The Rev. E. W. Cofer, Texas prison chaplain, told a Baptist pastors conference in Houston that inmates are treated as animals. He warned the statement could cost him his job as chaplain as two prison managers have previously rebuked him for protesting beatings. Maj. John Lewis, a Black man, was arrested Friday night in the cafe of Marshall Chambers and charged with burglary. City officers Newt Johnson and Marshall Terry found him in the building after shots were fired. Night Wreck on North Travis Injures Three

Three men were injured around midnight on North Travis street in a two car wreck. R. G. McLeod of the Santa Fe Railway, Aldred Dusek, and Johnie Gelner were treated at St. Eduard's Hospital, with Dusek sustaining severe head injuries from a windshield impact. All patients were discharged after treatment.

Hearne Structures Ten Buildings Moved to Milam Schools

Forty military buildings from the Hearne POW camp were awarded to Milam County School Board by the War Assets Administration. Cameron Names County Depositories Banks to Hold Funds

Cameron County commissioners designated Citizens National Bank and First National Bank as county depositories. The county will earn 1.5 percent on daily balances with deposits averaging $100,000 to $125,000. Citizens National Bank holds two thirds and First National one third of funds. Banks may loan to the county at 4 percent if needed.
