Ex Cameronite Named Director of Women Marines
Lt Col Margaret Monroe Henderson, daughter of D M and Mrs Henderson of Lubbock and formerly of Cameron, will take command as director of the Women Marine Corps in March and be promoted to full colonel. A 1943 entrant, she served at Camp LeJeune and Washington, taught at Texas Tech, studied at the University of Denver, commanded the Paris Island detachment, and later led the Quantico Officers Training Detachment and the Camp Pendleton staff before rising in rank as the second highest women officer.

6000-Foot Tests Due In West Milam
Milam County plans a new 6,000 foot deep wildcat in the western part of the county. The project will drill to 6,900 feet on a 277 acre lease about eight miles west northwest of Rockdale in the Juan Jose Acosta Grant Tracy-Sharp area. Dan J. Harrison Jr of Houston leads the drilling with Harrison recent lease acquisitions in the vicinity.

Shuffield Dies In Auto Accident In Milam County
Neal Shuffield 31 of Cameron died when his car missed a bridge on Lone Pine Road in South Milam County between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m. Sunday or Monday, probably from a broken neck. Sheriff Black investigated. Perry Cotton saw the wreck at about 9 a.m. and notified authorities. Funeral held at Marek Burns Funeral Home with burial at Powers Chapel near Rosebud sorn at Lott, Texas. Survived by wife Murl, daughter Carolyn Sue, parents Furman and Mrs Shuffield, three brothers and a sister. World War II veteran.

Comedy Duo Stars In Cameron Show
A man and wife clown team, Cecil and Mrs Eddington, star nightly at the Merchant Jubilee Show in Cameron. Veterans of television with Milton Berle and Bob Hope, they perform on Temple Highway SH 26 West. Eddington began in vaudeville comedy in 1915 and has been a professional clown since.

MOD Basketball Brings In Funds At Local Exhibition
About 800 fans packed Yee High School Gym to watch Cameron Independents fall in overtime to the all girls Redheads in an exhibition game. The MOD drive raised 1545.18 this year through school activities including Teen Day Mothers March Farm Bureau Talent Show and Bucket Brigade. Don Humble thanked workers and organizations for supporting the drive as a style show and Recreation Hall event complemented the basketball fundraiser.
