Bill Alex Bonds, Milam County Assessor and Collector of Taxes, announces his candidacy for re election for the office to be decided in the July 25 1942 primary. He cites his lifelong residence in the county and experience in the office as basis for continued service urging taxpayer support.
Red Cross reports Corporal Charlie P Simecek Jr of Cameron Hawaii based in Honolulu on active duty and not wounded in Pearl Harbor attack. John F Gray of Military and Naval Welfare Service confirms promotion to Corporal and informs Cameron parents Charlte and Mr Simecek Sr.
Col. John C. Damon of the War Department accuses the Rural Electrification Administration of wasting copper in southwest power line projects. He cites a Texas REA link from Possum Kingdom dam to Garland as unnecessary, wasting 300000 pounds of copper, and argues public utilities could meet needs via the Pensacola dam and Lake Catherine plan. He warns the southwestern pool risks overuse of reserve amid shortages. Rep Durham notes some already go without strategic materials.
Local Board Number 2 in Cameron received 971 registration cards from the February 16 event. The turnout was about as anticipated. Miss Lamie Louise Bowmer of Abbot attended with Miss Bertie Eleanor Bowmer and the pair visited the Fat Stock Show in Houston for the weekend.
Today's Immortals lists 32 draftees reporting to Fort Bliss near El Paso for U S Army induction. Names include Frank S Horelien Buckholts and Steve Cohen Cameron among many others from Cameron, Buckholts, Burlington, Ben Arnold, Rosebud, and Rogers Rt 3.
Thousands of registration cards have been printed and a second civilian registration will be held in the county soon. Emory B. Camp, chairman of the Home Defense Council, said many will have their chance once the date is announced. The first batch exhausted supplies. official notice will precede the new registration date.
Superintendent S. C. Miles of Rockdale schools resigns effective at term end. He cites zeal in service and notes prior political defeat in 1946. Reported dissatisfaction over school situation existed in Rockdale, with no formal factors released.

Chas. W. Manning departed Tuesday at noon to report for service with the U S Army reporting to Fort Sam Houston. Manning, owner of Chili's Shoe Store, leaves the business in charge of his mother Mrs Etia Manning.
Mrs Myrtle Arnold Briscoe died February 17 1942 at her sister Mrs Mamie Arnold Hefley home in Cameron. Funeral held February 18 at 3:30 pm at Mrs Hefley residence. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery. Survivors include sister Mrs Hefley. Out of town relatives attended the funeral.
The sixth annual PIGSKIN REVUE at Southwestern University features a one act musical comedy Time's a Wastin. Tom Johnson directs with over 100 student performers. Preview interest has led to bookings at Southwest army cantonments. Scenic effects by Harry Little Dallas. The show occurs February 26 in Yoe High Gym under Band Parent's Association.
The Interscholastic League for Milam County is suspended for 1942 after the Milam County Teachers Association met on February 10. The war and tire conservation drove the action. Delegates to the March 7 district convention in Temple include John W. Gilpin, T. N. Wood, Fred Graves, and Kathryn Sproull with D. D. Martin and H. F. Horstmann as alternates.
Five Army Air Corps officers spent Sunday in Cameron before joining tactical units en route to combat duty overseas. Lieut. Frank M. Newton, Lieut. Glade Jorgensen, Lieut. John C. Medford, and Lieut. Robert J. Nesper Jr. visited with Newton’s mother Mrs W R Newton. Newton is Cameron born. Lieut. Thomas Jefferson White arrived Sunday for a brief visit before reporting to Jackson Air Base for training.

The Knights of Pythias Lodge will host an open house Monday February 23 at 8 p m to mark the order's 78th anniversary. Chancellor Commander W A Morrison leads a program with refreshments, out of town guests expected, and all members urged to attend with their wives and sweethearts.
Melvin Allday of Houston visited Cameron to see his parents Mr and Mrs W A Allday. He has enlisted in the Army Air Corps and passed a test with 99 and a physical. He will be called to active duty soon and is now in reserve. He formerly lived in Cameron with Fred Reno at the Palace of Sweets. His father is prescription druggist at New Cameron Drug Company.
Cameron clinched the Milam County championship with a 25 to 7 victory over Rockdale in the final. Earlier, Rockdale beat Therndale 48 to 8 and Cameron downed Jones Prairie 28 to 14 as the Athletic Council staged county games after the interscholastic league was abandoned.
Milam County will raise egg output by about 750000 eggs to 2250000 dozen for 1942 under the Food for Victory program. Last year Milam produced 1827000 dozen. the plan targets improved housing, sanitation, and nutrition including green feed and quality chicks to support the increased quota.
W H Caldwell died early Saturday at his Rockdale home. The 63 year old pioneer, recently retired from Missouri Pacific railroad service, is survived by his wife Mamie Camp and relatives including E A Camp mayor of Rockdale. Funeral is set for 4 p m Sunday February 15 1942 at the Caldwell home with burial in Rockdale Cemetery. many Cameron friends planned to attend.
The government in Washington urged citizens to avoid weather talk on the telephone. With air attacks feared and enemy aliens in Cameron and most communities, officials urged full cooperation with wartime controls.
John Sapp an instructor in mechanics at a defense camp in San Antonio spent the weekend here with his wife. Mrs. Sapp accompanied him back to San Antonio and the couple are keeping house in an apartment.
Z. G. Warren, 69, died February 18 1942 at his daughter’s home near Jones Prairie. Funeral services were held February 19 at String Prairie Church with Rev. Henry M. Bailey officiating. Interment in String Prairie Cemetery. Surviving are two sisters, a brother, nine children, twenty three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Marck Burns Funeral Home in charge.
Texas 4-H Club members may obtain loans for food production projects through the Farm Security Administration in addition to banks and other sources. State agents note past pilot programs in Briscoe and Lubbock counties and highlight 1941 earnings and outputs from 4-H beef, mutton, wool, dairy, poultry, eggs, fruits and vegetables as growth under the 1942 war food production push.
