Vick Seeks 618000 Brazos District Funding Amid Tax Uncertainty

Senator Kyle Vick of Waco proposed a 618000 appropriation for the Brazos River Conservation and Reclamation District, tied to doubts a state tax board will tax for general revenue in 1949. He warns a district default would block Whitney Dam leasing, halt dam and reservoir construction, harm Texas water conservation, and shift net profits to the state after debt and expenses are paid.

District tax plan tied to Brazos River project

A legislative plan ties district tax revenues to the Brazos River program, noting hundreds of millions of dollars in taxable property would flow in on completion. It warns that default on bond payments would injure both the district and the state, proposing a tax levied to offset the need for an annual appropriation of 309000 dollars. The bill cites a 20 year grant of taxes justified by flood calamities.
