Detroit on February 15 reports Henry Ford preparing a nationwide advertising campaign in newspapers and magazines to oppose naval and military expenditures before Congress. He intends to devote millions to an educational campaign against war and preparedness, aiming to reach all Americans.
The Cameron Cemetery Society held a Worker's Conference at Wylander's Club Rooms at 3 p m Monday. Misses Jeff Lewis and Victoria Oxenford reported dues collected and one new member joined. Members urged donations of plants to screen the cemetery fence and along the watercourse. The society noted debts were reduced and more funds are expected. officers include President Mrs Jeff T Kemp and Secretary Mrs Giles L Avriett.
Thompson Kempton entertained Cameronian Society members Friday evening with Valentine themed contests and old time games. Elaine and Christine Cone assisted. hot chocolate and white cake served. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Parma and Mr. and Mrs. John Matula attended Catholic services in Marak with visiting priest Father Letsba of Chicago.
The Burlington News Letter reports a splendid farm weather spell and a cold snap ending Saturday. Notable visitors include H F Albert and H C Henderson in Waco, G P Halcombe in town, and J A Burt joining Burlington Telephone Co as night operator. A Valentine dance by Herman Sons drew a large crowd. Bart Cahill Arch Chandler and Henry Litzman attended a dance in Flag Hall. Lee Marek and families visited. two locals, Leo O Neill and Tom Brod, were thrown from a buggy injuring Brod's ankle.
The Ladies Missionary Society of the Baptist Church met Monday afternoon for their regular Bible study led by Miss Ada Henderson. The Ladies Aid Society of the Christian Church gathered Monday afternoon for a lesson on Training for Service led by Mrs. T. A. Pope followed by a brief business session. The Presbyterian Missionary Society met with Mrs. W. W. Chambers for an afternoon of work with a large attendance and refreshments at the close.
Miss Mary McClendon of Ben Arnold Texas will be one of the duchesses at the May Festival staged by the Department of Expression of Southwestern University in Georgetown. She will attend upon the Queen during the event.
Messrs. T. F. Hardy Jeff J. Kemp R. H. Redfield and Judge John Watson motored to Calvert Thursday night to attend Masonic ceremonies and a big banquet in that city.
The Central Texas District Farmers Union held its annual meeting at the Taylor Opera House with about 100 delegates from nine counties in attendance. President J E Cherry presided, committees were named, and the afternoon program included committee reports and resolutions.
The Baptist church announces Sunday services with Pastor Blrylock preaching at both worship hours. February 27 will feature Christian Education offerings and a three o clock sermon at North Elm on the Campaign for Christian, inviting participation from all. Evening service at seven thirty closes the day with an open invitation to nonmembers.
Mrs. Lottie Bigbee hosted a five course Valentine dinner for twenty at The Rookery with rose motifs heart decorations and red cupids on place cards. Dave Wilson led toasts praising the hostess and guests spoke of friendship and memories of The Rookery era.
Brother of Mrs. W. W. Greer, Emmett Streetman, died last Thursday in El Dorado Oklahoma after a two week illness.
A large social ball is set for Wednesday night February 23 at the Wokaty platform. The event promises good music and a good dance floor with all invited to attend.
Local social events include the Masonic Banquet in Milano with C W Straus W A Sproull Newton McDonald and H S Gunn in attendance. Miss Dora Alford guests Miss Smith of Rosebud and Miss Lucile Henderson hosted a slumber party. Womans Missionary Society elected officers and planned a March eleventh social business meeting. Rev J C Cockrell preached and society officers were installed at evening service.
The J George Loos Carnival Company stayed in Rockdale due to bad weather and lighter than expected patronage. The Reporter endorses the show as clean and high quality, praising acts like The Shadow of the Cross and The Hippodrome. They begin engagements in Cameron on Monday February 21.
In Falls County Texas at 1 AM Pete Waite of Reagan was killed and Miss Wietzatowski seriously wounded on the Wietzatowski farm nine miles from Marlin. A negro suspect was detained by Sheriff C H Platt as inquiries begin into the cattle dispute that sparked the gunplay.
Judge J D Ruby returned from Buffalo with a young man charged with forging the name of a well known citizen to a $50 check drawn on Milano State Bank. The offender, previously a local resident, was held at Cameron county jail after Deputy Sheriff Peel transported him Monday afternoon.
The Cameronian Literary Society met at the school building Monday night with President presiding. Declamations were by Bennie Brown, John Burns, and Hanney Henry. The debate on whether Congress should grant woman suffrage ended with the negative winning 9 to 8.
The Woman's Missionary Society and the Young Ladies Missionary Society met at the church on Monday to hear Mrs. D. Lay's report to the Texas Conference Missionary Society in Marshall Texas. The audience showed interest as the Budget Financial plan was adopted to help both groups become Ideal Societies this year. Mrs. C. D. Lay received a blue ribbon at Marshall for the Woman's Society as Cameron earned a place on the Honor Roll under her leadership.
