Buckholts Man Fined For Double Compensation
Homer E. Solomon of Buckholts pleaded guilty to defrauding the Workmen's Compensation Commission. He was fined twenty dollars and costs and given twenty days in jail after admitting to receiving unemployment benefits while also drawing compensation for injuries. Milam County paid poll taxes for 1939 total 4772 with 70 exemptions making 4842. Reported by Bill Alex Bonds collector of taxes. In Cameron city 260 poll taxes were issued. Bonds says the figure compares favorably with non political years but remains short of eligible voters in the county.
